Biografie

Joensuu, Finnland (1997 – aktuell)

2004 erschien das zweite Studioalbum Since the Day It All Came Down.
2011 erschien das Album One For Sorrow.

@down: Hah, that's exactly what I think. I hope that Insomnium's new album will actually be heavy, melodic, and atmospheric like Above The Weeping World, and the older stuff.

Personally DT's WATV and the new one Construct is/may be better than One For Sorrow. Not a huge disappointment, OFS is still good but it's not as good as the early works. Even Across The Dark was semi good compared to In The Halls Of Awaiting & Since The Day It All Came Down. Above The Weeping World is also excellent. Not liking the direction Insomnium is going with their latest efforts though.. they are good albums but not as great as the older stuff.

@down: yeah, "if"... . In my opinion, One for Sorrow was overproduced, and sounded like radio-friendly metal. As much as I love this band, I fear they will continue in this direction.

Well the new Dark Tranquillity stuff sounds awful to my ears, and I'm a longtime fan... Fiction was their epic, and WATV was bland... If Insomnium's next album is a winner, they pretty much take the crown for me

"One thing I never understood is how people consider DT and Insomnium to be similar at all." It's all about the feels, man. Both bands carry a similar emotion to them. It's like Agalloch and Alcest: Both aren't alike musically, but people who like one band tend to like the other as well since both convey similar emotions.

Melodeath has always been my favorite genre of metal but for whatever reason I keep coming back to Insomnium as I feel they are the best of the genre. Something about their melodies just stands above the rest of the pack.

They do the same thing with Be'lakor and Insomnium. I'd say the most similar thing about them is that they are all melodeath.

I agree that there are similarities between Dark Tranquillity and Insomnium but I don't think they are so close in sound. Insomnium bears all typical Finnish MDM elements, while Dark Tranquillity's style is a bit more straight-forward and on the other hand - a bit atmospheric and out of the box.

I disagree. Recently I've been given the chance to listen to Noumena and they instantly reminded me of Colony-era In Flames. If I had not known, I would have told that they are Swedish. Nowadays you can't tell for sure if a band is Swedish or Finnish.

hehe, I'm just saying that its rather hard to mistake swedish and finnish metal. dark tranquillity is an exception, which makes them quite unique. well, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYIJTHmTNkY

Didn't DT come before the Finnish mdm scene?

So, it turns out that all Finnish mdm bands just have DT playing style?

Awesome band and quit this pointless conflict with another awesome band which DT is. Actually, it is know for years, that DT has rather finnish melodeath playing style, although they're from Sweden, but... who cares?
