The black-and-white image of legendary Butoh dancer Kazuo Ohno that adorns the cover of The Crying Light, the third full-length by Antony and the Johnsons, seems to offer a view of a being enveloped in both ecstasy and agony -- or does it? The songs contained here offer something else: a glimpse of a universe beyond the pale of vision, seen only by the individual experiencing it. Neo-classical underpinnings are entwined lovingly with broken pop songs and secretive after-hours cabaret poems. Check the opener, "Her Eyes Are Underneath the Ground". The piano and cello fall together as one slow dancer, alone in the spotlight, keeping memory as time: "In the garden, with my mother/I stole a flower/With my mother, in her power/I chose a flower/I saw six eyes glistening in my womb/I felt you calling me in the gloom/Rest assured your love is pure.... …

Eu estava olhando com mais atenção as charts do Brasil. Não as do grupo, mas as dessa página: http://www.last.fm/place/Brazil/+charts

Percebi que entre os 100 primeiros artistas mais ouvidos, há apenas 7 que são made in Brazil: Los Hermanos, Legião Urbana, Chico Buarque, Fresno, Engenheiros Do Hawaii, Capital Inicial e Cássia Eller. Nenhum deles aparece entre os dez primeiros mais ouvidos. O que chega mais próximo é o Los Hermanos em décimo segundo lugar. Não estou querendo fazer uma crítica quanto a pouca quantidade de artistas (embora seja válido também), mas quanto a pouca variedade. Basicamente, os artistas brasileiros mais ouvidos são bandas de rock e pop rock. Só Chico Buarque foge do resto por ser mais atrelado à bossa nova. E Cássia Eller, sendo enquadrada com o genérico rótulo de mpb.

No geral, o que mais predomina na lista são bandas/artistas pop, eletropop, indie e todas as suas variações (?). classic rock aqui e acolá. Feijão com arroz de metal. E nada de mais expressivo.

Cuando hablas o cantas con palabras que son únicamente palabras (o que parecen ser meramente palabras) algunas veces sientes que son demasiado etéreas, incluso huidizas. Pero cuando te das cuenta de la relevancia que tiene algo para ti, entonces las palabras son muy tangibles. Valoras el significado de la canción por el movimiento en la danza y por la expresión y percepción que te permite. Te das cuenta de la calidad inherente de una canción por medio del sentimiento que te da. Te haces consciente del silencio que sobreviene en ti cuando cantas o escuchas una canción de estilo silencioso. No solamente la sientes. Lo sabes. La substancia es emocional, pero más que eso, espiritual, y es real y tú estás presente y eres parte de ella. El acto de la canción que estás experimentando, es real, y la realidad es substancia suya.

No me inspiro en la música sino en aquellas cosas que aparentemente nada tienen que ver con lo musical.
La gente que forma el público son músicos aunque no sepan tocar un instrumento. No es músico quien sabe tocar el instrumento sino aquél que piensa en términos musicales.

La música es como el viento, no se detiene en ningún sitio.

Alguien que desde la música cree que un mundo mejor se construye nota por nota, con todos los sonidos del mundo. Una especie de utopía que se puede bailar.

... my favourite new music style!
I always hated fusion... It reminded me of jazz-rock, Franck Zappa and other atrocities. But I admire Chick Corea and Return to Forever and I'll probably start exploring more 70-80s fusion. I wish it was called something else.
I've always loved Hermeto Pascoal and Airto Moreira and Miles Davis which are kind of fusion.

I'd hardly come to know Sivuca. Unpainted, a close friend, had brought Pau Doido back from Rio, almost exactly a year before, his passing, in December. I love(d) it and've come to know him much better, following his connection to LAYSA - He's now at 169, in my overall artists. Therefore, I'm sure, a few others've come the know him, also, through my friend's kind album gift.

I only heard of his fate this evening, from the same friend. How strange that he was @ #2 in my weekly chart, last week, with Feira De Mangaio @ #1 track and Sivuca & Rosinha de Valença @ #4 album. All without my knowledge of his death. *ques Twilight Zone theme*
