Biografie

Gun war eine schottische Rockband, die 1987 von den Brüdern Giuliano (Gitarre) und Dante Gizzi (Bass) gegründet wurde. Die weiteren Bandmitglieder waren Mark Rankin (Gesang), Scott Shields (Schlagzeug) und Baby Stafford (Gitarre).
1989 erschien ihr erstes Album Taking On The World. Die Single Better Days schaffte es in die Top-40 der UK-Charts. Gun ging in Amerika auf Tour und war die Vorband der Rolling Stones auf deren Europa-Tour 1990.

Alex Dickson ersetzte Baby Stafford vor der Veröffentlichung des zweiten Albums Gallus. Dickson und Shield verließen danach die Band, Mark Kerr (Bruder des Simple-Minds-Sängers Jim Kerr) kam als Drummer neu dazu. In dieser Besetzung nahmen sie mit Chris Sheldon das dritte Album Swagger auf, das ihr erfolgreichstes wurde. Die Single Word Up (im Original von der Band Cameo) erreichte die Top-10 und war auch außerhalb Englands ein Hit.
Nach dreijähriger Unterbrechung versuchte die Band 1997 ein Comeback mit dem neuen Schlagzeuger Stuart Kerr (zuvor bei Texas), einem neuen Namen (G.U.N.) und dem Album 0141 632 6326, das von INXS-Keyboarder Andrew Fariss produziert wurde. Der Sound der Gruppe war jetzt viel leichter und poppiger. Allerdings blieb der Erfolg hinter den Erwartungen zurück.
Danach löste sich die Band auf. 1998 und 1999 gab es kurzzeitige Wiedervereinigungen und es erschienen zwei weitere CDs mit älterem Material.

    Really disappointed with the direction GUN's music has gone. From being solid, quality rockers to 'pop'eteers... 0141 was the first nail in GUN's rock coffin and now Break The Silence is the lid being sealed and the whole shebang being lowered into the ground. At least we have the first three albums to remember that GUN once produced leading edge hard rock music that meant something. They should have released the latest effort under another name 'cos it aint GUN.

    one of my best ever gigs was seeing Gun in the old Mayfair on Sauchiehall St where talking 90-92 sometime.... althou its pretty sad to see that Gun only has just over 300,000 scrobbles..this bands deserves too be in the millions at least.

    Los únicos Gun que existen para mí son los de fines de los 60, autores de un tema tan emblemático como Race With the Devil, y que influyó a Judas Priest y a un montón de bandas del NWOBHM. Esos GUN son los que vale la pena rescatar y recordar. A los escoceses no los conozco, quizás tengan buenos temas, no sé, pero habría que diferenciar a ambas bandas. Saludos

    I know, you young poopers don't know about history, but there once lived two guys named Marcus Porcius Cato. Everybody knows that one of them always stated "Ceterum censeo..." and so on, but does any of you, know which one it was? Today we call them Cato the Elder and Cato the younger. You can see, both names are changed, not only one. Thats Diplomacy. How about Gun (Gurvitz/Farrell) and Gun (Gizzi/McManus) By the way the coversleeves of my LPs show 'Gun' and not 'The Gun'
