    there in lies the problem with covers. No matter how you do them, the emotional attachment to the song will always be different than that of the writer. Having said that, Clapton still rules.

    I applaud Clapton for making an album full of Robert Johnson songs. Truly, truly, Johnson is the godfather of all blues, rock and damn near every other part of 20th century American music. However, Clapton’s crafting leaves the absolute bleak heartbreaking tone of Johnson’s voice behind on many renditions. These songs are great, but they lack the emotional weight and desperation of Robert Johnson.
