Haha, I didn't even think of that while reading his post. We can't undo what has been done. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hW7EfiBwm0 A lot of us were surprised when it turned out to be about suicide, rather than society, industry, consumerism, etc.

Pyfesgh perhaps you listened to the version of Serenade where the lead vocals had been left out on the misprinted editions of the album?

I think if RFTI had the some production as TQE had, that album would be lot more popular. The production isn't CTO bad, but it's alright. Then again, if RFTI had been super popular they might have not changed their working methods or producer.

@Clandenstine-Ene I didn't mean that TQE was "simpler" by saying it was basic, I just meant it's probably easier to get into if you're not used to Epica. I'd disagree that they haven't ever had drastic changes. Yeah, they always have been symphonic metal but their sound has always been changing for the better (TQE) or worse (RFTI).

I wouldn't call TQE "basic" by any means, it's symphonic metal on acid with perfect production. Plus the lyrics are still meaningful. I think they still play music quite similar to what they did on TPA, they just evolved and got more adventurous musicians to join the band to enhance the sound. That's one of my favorite things about Epica, they haven't changed their style ever drastically, just improved on it and added new elements.

@michael_yatesy I actually tried Serenade and while it was good, it was mostly instrumental and didn't quite hit it for me. @trasher86 their single best album is The Phantom Agony but it also has the most unique and different style to modern symph metal music, leaning more symphonic, and it's also a very meaningful album in terms of lyrics. If you want just basic badass symphonic epic metal try The Quantom Enigma which is bombastic enough for any metalhead to enjoy.

??? !!! ???. what other RFTI songs could you possibly be talking about.

I've tried to get him to give it some more listens, but he refuses. I like TQE (song) more than SoSD, though I like other tracks on RFTI more than either ;P

@shodan21 and anyone else who has not given RFTI much of a chance: please listen to Serenade of Self-Destruction!!! Easily beats TQE (song) as being a better closing track.

I prefer The Classical Conspiracy over Retrospect. Her voice is much better. and about RFTI I think it's alright. Definitely not their best but it's not a weak album. I guess people don't like it because people have very high expectations of Epica specialy after DYU in 2009.

im cool with storm the sorrow, and thats about it. course, i havent really listened to most of the other tracks, so thats a terribly uninformed opinion, but hey. also, i really dont like the super obvious "non-americans critical of american politics" lyrics.
