Elend ist der Name von mindestens zwei Bands.

1) Elend ist eine 1993 in Frankreich gegründete Band, deren Gründungsmitglieder der Franzose Iskandar Hasnawi und der Österreicher Renaud Tschirner sind. Ihr Stil lässt sich der Neoklassik zuordnen, wobei auch Dark-Ambient-Einflüsse zu erkennen sind.

Bislang veröffentlichten sie zwei Zyklen und ein allein stehendes Album. Ebenso wie der erste Zyklus, Officium Tenebrarum, ist auch der zweite, Winds Cycle, eine Trilogie. Der 3. Teil des Winds Cycle erschien im Mai 2007 über Holy Records in Frankreich und über Prophecy Productions im restlichen Europa. Die Texte bedienen sich unterschiedlicher Sprachen. So sind die Texte auf den Alben des Officium Tenebrarum-Zyklus lateinisch, griechisch, englisch, hebräisch und französisch.

    They made something different from any neoclassical darkwave I've ever heard. I'm not in the position to say who's the best and who's not, but beyond this, their originality and talent make them a really great band.

    Yes, it is. "Winds Devouring Men" and "Sunwar the Dead" are pretty similar, although more violent than DCD. For example, "The Host of Seraphim", "Enigma of the Absolute", "Tell Me About The Forest (You Once Called Home)", "Ascension", "Xavier" etc are the songs of the same darkwave style as "Chaomphalos", "Threnos", "Poisonous Eye", "The Newborn Sailor", "Silent Slumber: A God That Breeds Pestilence", and even "Moon of Amber".

    For me, the only real simililarity is the voice of Renaud Tschirner but it's still original, Renaud has never tried to copy Brendan. I know that Elend's members like DCD but it's clear they aren't DCD's followers. Nobody makes anything really similar to Elend. They shouldn't be described as gothic/ethereal/dark ambient, if we can say they have inspirations, they are inspired by contemporary classical composers.
