  • Dream Theater - San Francisco - July 1st, 2012

    10. Jul. 2012, 22:45 von jukkakhan

    Artist: Dream Theater
    Supporting: the crimson projeckt
    Date: July 1st, 2012
    Location: San Francisco
    Venue: The Warfield
Tour: A Dramatic Tour Of Events

    Remarks:
It wasn't until this concert that I realized I've seen Dream Theater every year for the past 5 years. Not only that, but according to my setlist.fm account, out of 47 (ish) songs, I've only heard 5 of them twice; now that's some setlist diversity! It was great going into this concert knowing I'd be hearing different songs as well as those crazier, complicated songs that had yet to be played from A Dramatic Turn of Events.

As I found my place in front of the stage, I immediately noticed that there were not one, but two drumsets ready to go. Also, placed dead center of the stage: a chapman stick. This is how you know you're attending a prog concert. The Crimson Projeckt was thoroughly entertaining. These guys (and girl) know their way around their instruments in ways most people can only dream of, so they could pretty much bend the music to their will. …

  • Trapped In Octavarium's Full Circle - Intro

    15. Okt. 2011, 0:00 von jukkakhan

Whenever I get that dreadful feeling that my life is going nowhere, the first thing I turn to is Octavarium. Although it it does nothing to remedy the situation at hand, it gives me that tiny bit of reassurance that I'm not the only one who has felt trapped, and that as long as I continue to press on, I will find my way out. More importantly, it gives me some much needed time to distance myself from my thoughts and give them time to settle. Over the course of its 20+ minutes, the song progresses though five sections, each of them with their own distinct sound and feel, almost as if they were plucked from entirely different songs. But when taken as a whole, they bonds between them begin to strengthen and come together as the different parts of a long journey. As you progress through the different terrains, there are different messages to learn from the words around you. All of them valuable in their own right, but ultimately they share a common theme that builds the message of the entire album: the Full Circle. …

  • 4 Night Dream Festival

    5. Jul. 2010, 16:32 von dxdark

Inspired by Triple J's recent "Impossible Music Festival" it got me thinking about what bands I'd love in one festival. So, due to the recent holidays and my sleeping patterns being thrown out of wack due to the World Cup, I set myself the task of plotting a festival that no one else might enjoy, but I damn well would. The set up goes like this:
Warm Up Act - 4 songs
    Opener - 6 songs
    Main - 10 songs
    After Party - 6 songs
Some of the line ups ran to a lot shorter time wise than others, in which case I gave the After Party band 2 extra songs (and I gave the after party band on the last night an extra song because I could). The nights should try and follow a similar theme, so no acoustic country band following a death metal one.

Feel free to give it a shot yourself, of just leave me abuse for my choices.

    First Night
    Warm Up
    Dead Letter Circus
    >Here We Divide
    >The Space on the Wall
    >This Is The Warning
    >Reaction

    Opener
Metallica, accompanied by Symphony Orchestra (see S&M)

  • Lyrical Cataclysm

Rules: Put your playlist on shuffle and write down the first 25 songs you get.

    1. A Fair Judgement
    2. Stargazer
    3. Futile Bread Machine (Campfire Version)
    4. The Path of Least Resistance
    5. A Little Piece Of Heaven
    6. Windowpane
    7. Neurotica
    8. Lines in the Sand
    9. We Are the Dead
    10. The Root of All Evil
    11. War Inside My Head
    12. Great Expectations
    13. Losing Time / Grand Finale
    14. Future Breed Machine (Mayhem Version)
    15. 5.7.0.5
    16. About to Crash
    17. This Godless Endeavor
    18. Take It on the Run

    21. In Your Words
    22. Transfixion
    23. Burning My Soul
    24. I, Deception
    25. Bonnie the Cat

Now take the first line from the first song, the second line from the second song, third line from the third song, etc. and put them in order below to make your scrambled song. If the song doesn't have enough lines, loop back to the beginning; like if you need the 22nd line but the song only has 15 lines, you start counting again with the first line and use line 7.

  • The Ultimate Gig

    16. Nov. 2009, 2:00 von RealAir2112

Take nine bands that should play at your show and determine their set lists:
    - The first one plays 5 songs.
    - The second one plays 5 songs.
    - The third one plays 5 songs.
    - The fourth one plays 7 songs.
    - The fifth one plays 7 songs.
    - The sixth one plays 10 songs.
    - The seventh one plays 10 songs.
    - The eighth one plays 12 songs.
    - The ninth one plays 16 songs, with a 3 song encore.

Okay, this would clearly be some kind of all day show...and possibly the biggest collection of sheer win in one place, ever.

  • The Twelve Step Suite (Dream Theater)

    8. Jul. 2009, 0:51 von PiresMachine

The Twelve-step Suite, also known as the Alcoholics Anonymous Suite is a series of songs by progressive metal band Dream Theater. Each song, written by drummer Mike Portnoy, deals with his experience of alcoholism in some form, and each represent a certain number of the Twelve Steps.

The songs feature a number of recurring musical and lyrical themes, and all of them (except for "Repentance") are among Dream Theater's loudest and heaviest. Gathering all songs, the suite reaches a total of 57:16 minutes. All of the steps start with the letters "Re", a reference to the word "rehab". Mike Portnoy stated in an interview on the Eddie Trunk show on March 16 that he prefers to call it the "Twelve-step Suite" or "Twelve-step Saga" rather than "AA Suite".

The band also plans to release all of the songs together on a future live album. All songs are dedicated to "Bill W. and his friends".
