DragonForce ist eine Power-Metal-Band aus London.

Geschichte

DragonForce wurde von den beiden Gitarristen Herman Li und Sam Totman zunächst unter dem Namen DragonHeart gegründet und veröffentlichte im Juni 2000 ihr erstes Demo auf MP3.com. Dies brachte ihnen Einladungen als Gastmusiker bei Stratovarius und Halford sowie einen Plattenvertrag mit Noise Records ein, der Anfang 2002 unterzeichnet wurde. Im Zuge der Verhandlungen benannten sie sich in DragonForce um, da bereits eine andere Band und ein Plattenlabel namens DragonHeart existierten. In der Zwischenzeit hatte sich auch die Besetzung zum ersten Mal geändert, da Steve Scott und Steve Williams der Band den Rücken gekehrt hatten, um Power Quest zu gründen; Vadim Pruzhanov und Diccon Harper übernahmen für sie. Anfang 2003 erschien dann das erste Studioalbum, Valley of the Damned.

Im Laufe des Jahres vervollständigte sich das aktuelle Lineup, als Bassist Adrian Lambert und Bal Sagoth-Schlagzeuger Dave Mackintosh zu DragonForce stießen. Mit ihnen nahm die Band ihr zweites Album, Sonic Firestorm, auf, welches 2004 veröffentlicht wurde.

2005 wurden DragonForce als Kandidat für die beste UK-Gruppe bei den Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards nominiert. Zwar gewannen sie diese Auszeichnung nicht, doch erhielt Gitarrist Herman Li den „Shredder Award“ für seine Gitarrenkünste.

Im Oktober 2005 kündigte Adrian Lambert seinen Rückzug aus der Band an; am 3. Februar 2006 wurde Frédéric Leclercq offiziell als neuer Bassist der Band vorgestellt.

    My favorite rhyme of theirs is in Fury of the Storm when they rhyme "Cry for war" with "Forevermore" and then on the very next verse they rhyme "Forevermore" with "Cry for war"
