Auf den gemeinsamen Musikhund gekommen sind Dr. Dog Anfang des Jahrtausends. 2002 gibt es die erste Veröffentlichung der Herren aus Philadelphia mit dem drogenbeschwipsten Namen „The Psychedelic Swamp“, der erste Achtungserfolg kann aber erst 2004 mit dem selbstproduzierten „Easy Beat“ verbucht werden. Nach einer Tour mit My Morning Jacket wird nicht nur die New York Times sondern auch Rough Trade auf die Folkrocker aufmerksam. Sie werden unter Vertrag genommen und auf eine große Tour duch die USA und Eurpoa geschickt.

Das sie sehr einförmige Interessen hätten, kann man von Dr. Dog nicht behaupten. In ihrer Freizeit spielen sie gerne auch mal Vogelscheuche, lieben römische Kerzen, langsamen Tanz, dreiteilige Harmonien und Pizza Partys. Ansonsten machen Dr. Dog handgemachte Musik mit Folkeinschlag, Americanananleihen und einer ordentlichen Portion DIY-Attitüde. Instrumententausch inklusive. Bei den musiklaischen Einflüssen allerdings gibt man sich weniger bescheiden. Da werden neben Pavement, Roy Wood und Palace Brothers ganz selbstverständlich Vorbilder wie die Beach Boys, die Beatles oder Tom Waits herangezogen.

    id say the new album is great! it definitely is lacking with its lyrics and genre changing variety they had on the previous ones, but it has enough hits for me to be satisfied! seeing how they are playing with new sounds on this album shows that it just didnt work very well for a good half of the songs on the album. but hey im all for not making the same record over again so sometimes making these risks are nessesary!

    It deeply pains me to admit that the new album is weak. I don't know, something about those drums, and the doo wop has turned into just a faint and low sound. Their worst album, for sure. Still, some of the lyrics are still a-ok, Scott rhymes are fairly good.
