(1981 – 1998)

Dead Can Dance sind eine australische Musikgruppe, die Einflüsse aus sehr unterschiedlichen, multi-ethnischen Musikstilen zu einem unverwechselbaren Stil verbindet.

Die Musik von Dead Can Dance verarbeitet Einflüsse von „Alternative Rock“, Neoklassik, mittelalterlicher Choralmusik sowie Ethno- und Welt-Musik, bevorzugt aus osteuropäischen und arabischen Kulturen. Die Instrumentierung der Lieder umfasst u.a. afrikanische Percussions, australische Didgeridoos, asiatische Saiteninstrumente, europäische Gitarren und Synthesizer. Die vokale Besetzung kontrastiert Perrys weiche, an Country-Musik orientierte Stimme mit Gerrards sakralem, onomatopoetischen Gesang. Gerrard singt meist nicht in einer existierenden Sprache, sondern formt mit ihrer Stimme intuitive, musikuntermalende Laute. Perry singt in englisch, meist mit geheimnisvollen, poetischen Texten.

Biografie und musikalische Entwicklung:

Lisa Gerrard und Brendan Perry, beide anglo-irischer Abstammung, trafen sich 1980 in Melbourne, Australien. Beide traten als Musiker in Pubs auf. Das multi-ethnische Umfeld in dem Viertel East Prahran, in dem beide lebten, begann ihren musikalischen Stil zu beeinflussen. Gemeinsam arbeiteten die beiden Musiker nebenbei in einem Libanesischen Restaurant, um Geld für eine Übersiedlung nach London zu verdienen. 1981 gründeten Brendan Perry, Lisa Gerrard, Paul Erikson und Simon Monroe Dead Can Dance. Treibende Kraft war Perry, der das Konzept eines Künstlerkollektivs mit wechselnden Musikern verfolgte.

    Ja osobiście jestem zawiedziony nowym albumem koncertowym. Anastasis na żywo wiernie zostało odtworzone jak na płycie studyjnej. Jakbym słuchał kopi, nic więcej. Także nie rozumiem... dlaczego setlista została skrócona do 16 piosenek, gdzie na tej trasie grali 19 utworów. Najbardziej boli brak Rising of the Moon. W Sali Kongresowej ten utwór to był prawdziwy kosmos dla mnie;) Przepięknie kończył koncert. Mam jeszcze jedną myśl. Każdy utwór kończy się "wyciszaniem publiczności" przez to nie czuję jakbym był na koncercie. Pojedyncze fragmenty, sklejone ze sobą. Lepiej sobie posłuchać "Live Happenings" P.S Świetny pomysł opisania w książeczce muzyków grających w trasie !
