Christophe Charles, Composer (born in Marseille, 20.01.1964), doctorate at the University of Tsukuba (1996) and INALCO (1997), currently teaching at the Musashino University of Arts (Tokyo), creates compositions using computers with "found" sounds, emphasizing the autonomy of each sound and the absence of a hierarchical structure.
His compositions have been published solo on Mille Plateaux / Ritornell ("undirected" series), and on several compilations (Thousand Plateaux, Ritornell, Subrosa, Code, Circus, Cross, X-tract, CCI, ICC, etc.). Group exhibitions: ICC "Sound Art" (Tokyo, 2000), V & A "Radical Fashion" (London, 2001), etc. Permanent sound installations at Osaka Housing Information Center (1999), Central Atrium of Tokyo-Narita International Airport (2000).
Collaborations with musicians (Henning Christiansen, Shiomi Mieko, Shuichi Chino, Markus Popp (oval), Hanno Yoshihiro/hoon, Kako Yuzo, Shibuya Keiichiro …), visual artists & videographers (Grégory Chatonsky, Yamaguchi Katsuhiro, Yamamoto Keigo, Visual Brains, Takuro Osaka, Kai Syng Tan …), dancers & performance artists (Ishii Mitsutaka, Kazakura Sho, Osanai Mari, Ishikawa Fukurow, Salvanilla et alii). Actuell now he lives & works in Japan. He is the son of the french author Daniel Charles.
