Christian Death, deren Name eine ironische Anlehnung an Christian Dior ist, gilt als eine der frühen Death Rock-Bands im Westen der USA.

Bandgeschichte

Christian Death sind eine Band, die 1979 in Los Angeles von Roger Allen Painter alias Rozz Williams († 1998) gegründet wurde. Sie löste sich bereits 1981 wieder auf, reformierte sich jedoch im selben Jahr durch die neuen Bandmitglieder James McGearty und George Belanger Rikk Agnew. 1984 wurde Valor von Pompeii 99 auf Christian Death aufmerksam, was zur Folge hatte, dass dieser kurz darauf bei der Band einstieg, Gitane DeMone im Schlepptau. Es folgen Streitigkeiten, die Rozz Williams dazu bewegen die Band zu verlassen, Valor wird nun der Kopf von Christian Death. Valor ändert auch die nach außen kommunizierte Bedeutung des Namens Christian Death in dem er feststellt ´For sin and sacrifice we must die a Christian Death´. Fortan ist die Gemeinde der Christian Death-Fans in zwei Lager geteilt: Rozz- vs. Valor-Fans. Rozz Williams veröffentlichte nach einer gewissen Zeit auf dem Cleopatra-Label zahlreiche CDs unter dem Namen Christian Death, allerdings mit dem Zusatz „feat. Rozz Williams“. Dazu zählen Neubearbeitungen alter Christian Death-Songs, wie auf „The Iron Mask“ (1992). „Invocations“ (1993) ist eine Sammlung von Live-Aufnahmen mit teilweise sehr schlechtem Sound aus den Jahren 1981 und 1982, einer Aufnahme von David Bowies „Dodo“ aus dem Jahre 1989, als Rozz Williams schon gar nicht mehr Mitglied bei Christian Death war (es handelt sich also höchstwahrscheinlich um die Aufnahme eines seiner Soloprojekte), sowie in klanglicher Hinsicht annehmbaren Demo-Aufnahmen aus den Jahren 1983 und 1985.

Блин, если бы у меня была группа, моя собственная и я бы сама решила, что все, гейм овер, я б тоже взбесилась, если бы так сделали. Жалко Розза (против он был до того, как повесился, очевидно). но вешаться все равно глупо было. а еще меня раздражает, когда группа "раскручивает" себя на отношении к какой бы то ни было религии.

MusicBrainz (one, two), Amazon (one, two), and even Wikipedia seem to recognize the fact at hand: there were two different bands called Christian Death. Why doesn't last.fm recognize it also? Why allow one band to select an official image to the exclusion of another band of equal popularity that shares the same page? I had a long-winded reply posted earlier, but deleted it because who cares. What I'm really wondering is: what does a legal artifact have to do with correctly documenting the music we're scrobbling? It's a fact that we have two separate bands occupying this page; Rozz continued to release new albums as Christian Death after splitting with Valor, even while Valor was simultaneously releasing albums as Christian Death. It's a fact that both of these bands are popular in their own right - just take a look at the scrobbles here. These facts remain factual even if they're deemed illegal facts later on.

did you all even glance at the link I just posted? if we can all band together in big numbers, and get last fm to allow us to choose which artist pictures we want for our own profiles, this whole forced artist/label thing will hardly matter anymore! yes, Valor's (unwanted) presence will always be flashing here on Christian Death's main page, but as long as I get to see nice Rozz pics in my library on MY personal last fm profile, I am completely satisfied. besides, the whole idea of everyone fighting over which picture gets to the top is extremely frustrating and just doesn't work one way or the other anyway.
