Gaba Kulka has always been great for a surprise (remember her changing her name from Gabriela Kulka?), now she’s out to get me hooked on heavy metal (and, thus, turn me into my brother, Thermoskanne) with this record full of Iron Maiden covers.

The Twilight Singers 3.3 the worst


This song is so good, it's hard to completely ruin, though The Twilight Singers sure did try. It's also one of those songs that's very hard to vary from, so essentially all the covers sound more or less like the original. Storm of Capricorn and Novembre are probably the most interesting since they come out of left field (doom metal and martial industrial).

Still debating whether the Fred Thomas version would be worth tracking down.

So it's April, and I definitely have listened to a lot of great albums already.

Charlotte Martin-Dancing on Needles. This is probably going to be in my top 5 for this year. Yeah, yeah, I know, it's only April, but I just have a feeling. I loved her first album, and I definitely enjoyed parts of Reproductions, but I just couldn't get into some of her other stuff. I find this album to be more accessible than some of her others. My favorite songs are Weird Goodbye, Dancing on Needles, and Starlight, but almost every song is great.

Bright Eyes-The People's Key. I have been reading mixed reviews on this album. There are those who say it can be uneven at times, which I disagree with. There are definitely tracks that stand out more than others, but I don't think that Conor Oberst does anything haphazardly. A few people (including Conor himself) have said that it has an 80s vibe to it, which I do agree with to some extent. This one took a while to grow on me, and it definitely doesn't rate with I'm Wide Awake or Lifted…
