How varied is my music taste?
1. Dez. 2009, 23:57 von jaredjr100
'First, make a list of your overall top-20 artists. Then, for each of these artists, add the 9 most similar artists to your list. Delete any duplicates, add up the number of entries on your list and this will give you some idea of how eclectic your listening habits are. A score of 9 represents an extremely unvaried musical taste while a 200 represents an extremely varied one.'

I'm not feeling alright today.
I dream I never know anyone at the party and I'm always the host.
Most girls make noises in their sleep,
Bevan tried to change the nation.
If you find yourself caught in love
but if you blame it on the rain, tell me
I'm a man cut in half in this world.
But I've got the styles that are always in the pocket
so I can call just to tell them I'm fine;
I'd give you what you wanted.
You're pulling away,
I'm like a bird of prey.
Ignore them tonight and you'll be alright.
Behind the mic I'm burning too.
The only thing I'll ever ask of you:
Strange how it turns out that way
As he slides in the rest of them continue their talking and drinking
and I feel the time is right although I know,
Keeps a ten-bob note up his nose;
when the justice eludes you, it's the fortunes of war. -

The teenage queen and the loaded gun, the drop-dead dream, the chosen one. A southern drawl and a world unseen, a city wall and a trampoline. I don't mind if you don't mind, 'cause I don't shine if you don't shine. Before you jump, tell me what you find when you read my mind. Slipping in my faith until I fall, you never return that call. Woman, open the door. Don't let it sting. I wanna breathe that fire again.

Love You Madly
I don't want to hold back. I don't want to slip down. I don't want to think back to the one thing that I know I should have done. I don't want to doubt you, know everything about you. I don't want to sit across the table from you wishing I could run.
Which song best describes your friends?: Andrew Bird -
Imitosis
Which song best describes your school?: Rilo Kiley - Close Call
She was born on a brightened pew to a gypsy mother in a bucket of tears. Her good looks could have sailed a ship, but her will alone could have sunk it. Funny thing about money for sex: you might get rich, but you'll die by it. It's gonna be a close call.
Which song best describes your public personality?: Jack Off Jill -
Nazi Halo
Bring your IQ and try to understand. Just 'cause I'm listening don't mean we're still friends. Can't fix my problem: you've crossed a thin line. You can't just work it out. Not with me, this time. You go solo: your faggot rainbow, your junkie ego, your tragic disco, your Nazi halo won't save you this time. You're so predictable. No shadow of doubt. When you are suffering, know who sold you out. Fuck your opinions. Fuck your lack of spine. When you are miserable, know that I'm just fine.
Which song best describes your private personality?: A Perfect Circle - Passive
Leaning over you here, cold and catatonic, I catch a brief reflection: what you could and might have been. It's your right and your ability to become my perfect enemy. Wake up and face me. Don't play dead, 'cause maybe, some day, I will walk away and say, "You disappoint me. Maybe you're better off this way." Why can't you turn and face me?

How can I get ahead in life?: The Mountain Goats - San Bernardino
We got in your car, and we hit the highway. Eastern sun was rising over the mountains, yellow and blood red beams, like a kaleidoscope. And flaming swords may guard the garden of Eden, but we consulted maps from earlier days, dead languages on our tongues, holding on to our last hope. And the day was bright and fine, and the highway sign said, "San Bernardino welcomes you."
What is the best thing about me?: Gregory and the Hawk - Isabelle
And the ground's already hard where it's been dug in. I've gone this way too many times, but the pick keeps going deeper and I'm not turning back, so Isabelle, try to understand. I know just what to say, but it's incorrect to say it. How do I break it to him, the death of one who's staying? And all I think of now is a way to get under and a way to get out. Isabelle, what can I do for the naive pain it's causing you?

Strawberry Gashes
I lay quiet waiting for her voice to say, "Some things you lose, and some things you just give away." Scold me: failed her. If only I'd held on tighter to her pale white skin that twisted and withered away from me. Watch me lose her. It's almost like losing myself. Give her my soul and let them take somebody else. Get away from me. Watch me fault her: you're living like a disaster. She said, "Kill me faster, with strawberry gashes all over, all over me."
Will I have a happy life?: Wilco - Side With the Seeds
What do my friends really think of me?: Placebo - Slackerbitch
Your memory will fade. I didn't mean it. You've always had it made. I didn't mean it. I know you feel betrayed. I just wanted to get laid. I didn't mean it. Slackerbitch, fag-hag whore, looks real cute for lips so sore. Always knocking on my door. You come across impure. I didn't mean it. Goddamn immature: I didn't mean it. You act so insecure. You hate me now, I'm sure. I didn't mean it.

Maybe I would have been something you'd be good at. Maybe you would have been something I'd be good at. But now we'll never know. I won't be sad, but in case I'll go there every day to make myself feel bad. There's a chance I'll start to wonder if this was the thing to do.

If it's your decision to be open about yourself, be careful or else. Be careful or else. Uncomfortable apart, it's all written on my chart. And I take what's given me most cooperatively. I do what people say and lie in bed all day, absolutely horrified. I hope you're satisfied. Isolation pushes past self-hatred, guilt, and shame, to a place where suffering is just a game, but everybody's scared of this place. They're staying away. Your little house on Memory Lane.

23. Okt. 2009, 17:32 von sexydan
I started redoing this thing, which I did a while ago and found some minor insight into my music tastes and history. But then I started getting the same results again, because the questions repeat themselves for different numbers, and some bands get the same thing asked of them as last time. So for this one, I'm going to use my top 50 from the last 12 months.
1. How did you get into 31? Lucero
My brother started getting into this country-punk music, at the same time as I decided that I'd see what the deal was with Johnny Cash, so I was sort of co-opted into it. I listened to (and fucking loved) Ben Nichols' Last Pale Light In the West, so I decided to see what the deal was with his band.
2. What was the first song you ever heard by 22? Muse
No clue. Probably Butterflies And Hurricanes.
3. What's your favourite lyric by 29? Gogol Bordello
Ultimate: There was never any good old days / They are today, they are tomorrow / It's a stupid thing we say / Cursing tomorrow with sorrow.
4. What is your favourite album by 49? Cake
Comfort Eagle, although they were never really an album band to me.
5. How many albums by 13 do you own? Evil Cowards
None. They only have one, and I downloaded it.
6. What is your favourite song by 50? Bloc Party
Flux (Extended Version). The German version's also pretty killer.
7. Is there a song by 4 that makes you sad? The Mountain Goats
Ezekiel 7 and the Permanent Efficacy of Grace. Good God.
8. What is your favourite song by 15? Chuck Regan
I'll say The Light, even though it's by the Chuck Ragan & Austin Lucas duo.
9. What is your favourite song by 5? The Cat Empire
Miserere.
10. Is there a song by 6 that makes you happy? Modest Mouse.
I got this last time.
Dashboard. Even needs have needs, tiny giants made of tinier giants.
11. What is your favourite album by 40? The Offspring
Americana. 1997, baby.
12. What is your favourite song by 10? Franz Ferdinand
Another repeat. Although now it's the single version of
Lucid Dreams.
13. What is a good memory you have involving 33? Beirut
Sitting in a park in Woollahra smoking and drinking goon and listening to Henry talk about how he cries when he listens to Elephant Gun.
14. What is your favourite song by 37? Ben Nichols
The Last Pale Light in the West. Either version is fine.
15. Is there a song by 19 that makes you happy? Bedouin Soundclash
Until We Burn In The Sun (The Kids Just Want A Love Song), because it's a wonderful track with a wonderful sentiment and is excellent to hear live.
16. How many times have you seen 24 live? Belle & Sebastian
None.
17. What is the first song you ever heard by 23? The Gaslight Anthem
Boomboxes and Dictionaries, in a 'sit down and appreciate them' sort of way, it's the first track on the first album. And it worked.
18. What is your favourite album by 11? Attack In Black
Marriage
19. Who is a favourite member of 1? NOFX
Still Fat Mike.
20. Have you ever seen 14 live? Eels
Nooooo. I missed them last time they were in Australia, the only time they'd been out since I've been into them.
21. What is a good memory involving 45? Plushgun
Listening to the album Pins & Panzers and thinking 'This is exactly what being an indie hipster is all about. Love and all that shit.'
22. What is your favourite song by 16? The National
Fake Empire. No question.
23. What is the first song you ever heard by 47? Rancid
Brad Logan, off Chef Aid.
24. What is your favourite album by 21? The Dodos
Visiter
25. What is your favourite song by 18? Sigur Rós
Nowadays it's Untitled #3/Samskeyti, although once upon a time Viðrar vel til loftárása was very special to me.
26. What is the first song you ever heard by 38? Mute Math
Collapse, by virtue of being track 1 on Mute Math.
27. What is your favourite lyric by 3? The Decemberists
This Soldiering Life
But I, I never felt so much life
Than tonight, huddled in the trenches,
Gazing on the battle field,
Our rifles blaze away;
We blaze away.
28. What is you favourite song by 2? Okkervil River
Another repeat. Still
The War Criminal Rises and Speaks.
29. What was the first song you ever heard by 32? [Green Day
Green Day: Time of Your Life, probably.
31. How many times have you seen 17 live? Reel Big Fish
They've been to Australia a total of five times since I've known them. I have seen them zero times.
32. Is there a song by 44 that makes you happy? Death Cab for Cutie
Someday You Will Be Loved.
33. What is you favourite album by 12? Jackson Jackson
Ooh. They have two albums. Both are amazing albums for being albums. I'll say the first, because not only does it narrate its theme (the Apocalypse) as well as Tools for Survival does (Love), it incorporates a motif of the Underground, and all that word entails. So The Fire Is On The Bird.
34. What is the worst song by 46? The Faint
Phone Call. Hmm.
35. What was the first song you ever heard by 34? Clint Mansell
Summer Overture (Summer).
36. What is you favourite album by 42? AFI
Another repeat. Sing the Sorrow.
37. How many times have you seen 39 live? Philip Glass
None, and I can't imagine it'd be particularly enthralling to.
38. What is your favourite album by 36? Tom Gabel
Strictly solo work (Against Me! is 9), it's Heart Burns by default.
39. What was the first song you ever heard by 28? Old Kent Road
M'unno. Probably
Johnny Cerebellum.
40. What is you favourite album by 7? Electric Six
Still Señor Smoke, although if Covered In Gas were an E6 album it'd take the prize. -
