  • 13 pytań o TOP 50

    25. Nov. 2009, 23:36 von SC10n

    1 .Jakim sposobem zacząłeś słuchać '31' ?
All The Cold - szukałem wykonawców podobnych do ColdWorld i przypadkowo napatoczyłem się na .

    Anathema -SpielenElectricity

"There were times you really made me smile
And there were times you really made me cry
And there were times i never really knew how to feel
But electricity it drew you near to me
What you needed was to be rid of me
And the fear made you so unsure of me
What you needed was to be rid of me"

    Summoning - Oath Bound

    6. Jaka jest Twoja ulubiona piosenka wykonawcy nr '50'?
Jelonek - Funeral of Provincial Vampire

    8. Czy któryś utwór wykonawcy nr '6' sprawia, iż jesteś szczęśliwy/a, radosny/a? [jw]
Blood Stain Child.

    10. Czy masz jakieś miłe wspomnienia z wykonawcą nr '33' ?
Officium Triste. Nie. Grają naprawde melancholijny i przygnębiający doom.

Varg Vikernes z Burzum. Za całokształt. Kilkanaście ciosów nożem w "samoobronie" w imię idei robi wrażenie. I w ogóle przechuj kozak jest. :P

  • UNTIL THE LIGHT TAKES US explains black metal to world

    23. Nov. 2009, 19:58 von dark_legions

As a metal listener, I have been trying to get people to pay attention to why I listen to metal -- for most of my adult life. They focus on it being loud, "angry" and possibly antisocial, but never accept that it might have a reason for being that way and I might have a reason for liking it.

Until the Light Takes Us looks into why people make metal, and crosses political and genre lines to show how large corporations, fast food restaurants, religions and socially popular ideas are all the same type of thing, and metalheads have reason to reject it.

By looking into early 1990s black metal, this film explores the thoughts all of us have but are afraid to admit we do. Metal is only the lens, but the topic is a very human one: how do we both get along socially and stay true to ourselves?

  • Images and Black Metal

    22. Nov. 2009, 0:49 von Neve__

Dream Theater have been at the back of my mind for perhaps a year now, in a 'hey, these guys look like they might be pretty good, I should check them out some time' capacity. My desire to give them a proper look had been growing stronger for the last few months, however, mostly out of a need for a band that had long, dramatic guitar solos, after power metal stopped doing as much for me as it used to. I was finally persuaded to go out and get their Images and Words album about a month ago by Agraalofthemyst, and am very glad that I did. It certainly provides the long, technical instrumental sections that I wanted from it, and I often find myself amazed at the level of composition and instrumental ability. I did, at first consider the vocals a weakness of the album, and although I maintain that if it weren't for the instrumental sections, I probably wouldn't enjoy Dream Theater half as much as I do, James LaBrie's vocals are growing on me, and there are a lot of places where they do add significantly to the track. More recently, I have been listening to the epic METROPOLIS PART 2 whenever I have a spare hour and a half (the album loses at least half its atmosphere if it isn't listened to straight through, and for maximum effect, I like to listen to it after Metropolis Pt 1).

My second acquisition of the month was Ulver's Bergtatt, finally arriving after a wait of several months (I believe I first mentioned it a few journal entries back). This is my first black metal album (depending on whether you count Souvenirs d'un autre Monde), and it has certainly been an interesting experience. The clean sections of the album make it an excellent introduction, and I didn't find it tiring or difficult to listen to for the most part. It doesn't have quite the same energy that I got out of power metal (or, more recently, that I've been getting out of melodic death metal), but it does have different qualities to offer: it's very atmospheric, and the screamed vocals and vicious drumming and guitar playing express despair, pain and loneliness in a way that other genres aren't capable of. It has certainly done it's job, though: I'm now intrigued by the black metal genre in general, and eager to check it out in some more detail. Consequently, I have recently borrowed Immortal's At the Heart of Winter and Burzum's Det Som Engang Var from a friend, and am greatly enjoying the former, and finding the latter quite hard work (hopefully it will grow on me). Recommendations from anyone who knows of any other black metal artists who they think I should try are more than welcome.

Bass practice has unfortunately been going a bit more slowly recently. I had forgotten quite how intense the Cambridge terms are, and attempting to learn Japanese and practice bass on top of supervision work and tick assignments is probably rather over-ambitious. Hopefully I'll be able to pick things up again over the holidays.

Expect my next journal entry to be on December the 4th, and to be seven or eight pages of incomprehensible ranting about Sonata Arctica. I've been waiting a very long time indeed to see them live and am becoming increasingly excited that, on December 3rd, I finally will.
