Biografie

Brian Wilson (* 20. Juni 1942 in Hawthorne, Kalifornien) ist ein US-amerikanischer Musiker. Er gilt als der kreative Kopf der Beach Boys, und als einer der einflussreichsten Rock/Pop-Komponisten der letzten 50 Jahre.

Wilson komponierte die meisten Songs der Band in den 1960er Jahren und produzierte die Alben. Er sang die zweite Leadstimme, insbesondere die langsamen Balladen und die hohe Falsettstimme.

Neben seiner Arbeit mit den Beach Boys schrieb und produzierte Wilson für viele weitere Gruppen, unter anderem im September 1962 für „Rachel & the Revolvers“. Im selben Jahr führte er Regie bei den Aufnahmen von „Bob & Sherry“ (Bob Norberg, der mit Wilson einige Stücke schrieb). Später arbeite er mit dem Surfduo Jan & Dean. 1963 gelang Brian Wilson gemeinsam mit Jan & Dean sein erster Nr.-1-Hit mit dem Titel Surf City. Wilson hatte das Stück geschrieben und bei der Aufnahme ausgeholfen, was ihm Ärger von Seiten der Plattenfirma und der Beach Boys einbrachte.

Ebenso ab 1963 produzierte Wilson die Band „The Honeys“, für die er ebenfalls Lieder verfasste. Mitglied der „Honeys“ war Marilyn Rovell, die er 1964 heiratete.[1] Diese Zusammenarbeit zwischen ihm und den „Honeys“ dauerte bis zu deren Auflösung 1969. Er produzierte auch deren Comebackalbum 1986.

    SMiLE, Pet Sounds etc does mean more to me than the fact that I can vote, or the fact that it's no longer legal for my husband to rape me etc; i.e. the fact that I am considered to be human too. <- This goes to show how redonkulous your point is.

    Yeah, I get it. It's in the back of my mind too. When I said old I didn't really mean his literal age, I just mean he grew up in the 50s, regardless of how long it is since then. When I listen to The Beach Boys I'm conscious of the time and place the songs came from (you can hardly not be), that they're pretty much the whitest band ever (Four Freshmen too), that they're squares etc etc, and I enjoy them with that in mind. I do think it's innocent though. There's this recording from the rehearsals for the Lei'd in Hawaii '67 show where the characters in Help Me, Rhonda are reversed though :P

    But Brian wasn't old when he wrote songs such as "Hey Little Tomboy" or "Smart Girls". I consider those songs absolutely piggish. And apart from that he has this, although in a way innocent attitude towards women that they should cook for him and wear their hair long for him and help him get other girls out of his heart. It annoys me a bit, although I do forgive him.

    I think My Bloody Valentine are great, but if SMiLE and m b v were both created and conceived in 2013, SMiLE would still be more interesting. It also has 30 years on it.
