I adore the way Dylan seems to be singing/screaming the whole song through gritted teeth.

"There's a lonesome bell tone in that valley of stone / Where she bathed in a stream of pure heat" - damn, such great lines!

Dylan's reappropriation of old tunes on the modern albums seems to cause so much consternation in the fanbase at large, or at least the vocal online component - yet here he is back in 1978 rewriting something that's presumably even more precious to these Dylanheads, Like a Rolling Stone itself, and whaddya know, the remake is better. Now that's a feat.

it's my favorite on street legal, it's just so emotional and Bob is about to burst, it's got it all. Definitely one of my favorite vocal performances and it never ever gets old.

The more I hear this track, the more I enjoy and admire it. It's moved from my fourth favorite on Street-Legal to second; quite a climb by the song that I found least impressive on first listen!

Jim Beviglia (aka Countdown Kid): "Think of this masterful closing track as a latter-day “Visions of Johanna.” In each song, a narrator tumbles through an urban noir scene, addled by all that he witnesses and experiences, but mostly bad off because he misses the one person who can help it all make sense." Nice. I'll take this over Johanna ANY day, myself (but that's just me, I know it's a big big favorite in most Dylan circles).

"If you don't believe there's a price for this sweet paradise, remind me to show you the scars" this song is so awesome. My favourite from Street-Legal.

There's a neon light ablaze in a green smoky haze and laughter down on Elizabeth Street, there's a lonesome bell tone in that valley of stone where she bathed in a stream of pure heat - my favorite Dylan lines EVER.

I love the acoustic rhythm guitar off in the right channel! Of course, I love the whole damn thing, but only today did I notice that.

This is quite... somewhat similar to Like a Rolling on Stone on the instrumental side. Nonetheless, should definetely be regarded as great song.

This song should be regarded as one of Bob's absolute best. I don't really know why it's not more popular; bad press about Street Legal perhaps?

'The truth was obscure, too profound and too pure, to live it you have to explode. In that last hour of need, we entirely agreed, sacrifice was the code of the road.' i love that line and how has this got so few plays?! shocking! street legal is definately his most underrated album so i guess i shouldnt be that surprised
