These guys get judged way too quickly by secondwave purists. Something tells me the whole cybergoth aesthetic plays a big part in this whole misunderstanding. People seem to automatically lump Angelspit in with all the mindless "D4RK 3L3KTR0" rivethead kiddies. As far as modern industrial metal and modern EBM go, these guys are actually really great.

Angelspit is AngelSPENT without Amelia, IMO. I mean, WTF. "The Product" is a shit product. Don't waste your money honey. If you must, get the torrent so you can have your fill of the wonderfull "train wreck" that this wanker is.

zoog is literally the most obnoxious person on earth. i had to unfollow angelspit on facebook because he will not shut up about how actually the outcasts are the only sane people and all those ~normals~ are mindless sheep who watch reality tv and listen to pop music. dude thinks very highly of himself.

DestroyX wanted to focus on her fashion design and modeling careers, which are both going very well. Glad I got to meet her when she was still touring. Gorgeous.

The new album is really disappointing. Krankhaus, Blood Death Ivory, and Nurse Grenade were all perfect, and Hideous and Perfect was great, but it is definitely where they started to go in the direction of HMNI and The Product, which are not as interesting or enjoyable as as their previous albums for me.

Where as someone already paid for the work no longer views it as expressing art and being a matter of making ends meets, but now as hey alright I'm good money wise atm and despite whatever true intentions of putting out an album they have, once they have money it becomes more of an obligation that the album gets put out. Just my theory on it, I am all for supporting the artist as I buy the music that I enjoy listening to, but I don't support crowdfunding regardless of artist and or reason a crowdfunding is even needed, the starving artist is always better than the overfed artist. And yes I say art despite people making a living from their art, at the end of the day that is a side effect of living in a capitalist society, but none the less music itself is a form of art that is meant to be both a creative outlet for the artist and a platform for entertainment for others that are given the privilege to experience the art in whatever media it is presented.

    März 2014
  • DJSaryrn

Which brings me to my main point if an artist asks for say 5000 dollars and makes 10,000 dollars from crowdfunding in their mind not only do they have this album in the bag regardless of how it actually comes along creatively and sound wise, but they see green and figure via sales of this album, touring, and the option of always using crowdfunding again that they know they will be putting another album out even worse case scenario it's an apology album to fans making up for the last shit record. Money does indeed make the world go round, but it does not equal inspiration or tingle anything but the most shallow of emotions. So 9/10 times an artist is going to write a much better album when it comes out of their own pockets because their very living is on the line and despite that they still have the itch of an artist to take a risk and put out an album.

    März 2014
  • DJSaryrn

I agree with you about the crowdfunding for both games and music, in games it's obvious that it has now become a trend and scheme almost to sell a game on pure concept and hype while tricking the audience into believing they are getting the good end of the stick by paying to alpha test someone else's game. Worth it for some games at least somewhat, but majority of devs just following the monkey see, monkey do approach and copying the latest fad. It is a big shame it's now infecting the music scene. The reason it doesn't work being better despite the upfront money is the artist is hit with dual feelings of not wanting to venture too far out creatively in order to not upset their backers aka current fans, but at the same time they do get the feeling to experiment just because the money is now there and being an artist is not a stable job so you kind of have to go into it with the mindset every album will be your last.

    März 2014
  • inflikkt

so far no crowdfunding scheme has been anything satisfying. every album that seems promising which people donate to seems to fall short. also almost every game i get excited for disappoints, save for a few like shadowrun returns. crowd funded schemes just dont seem to pan out for some reason and i cannot really understand why. you would think since for once all these people are getting the money beforehand that should make for a better product with a direct connection to their fanbase, but alas... something always fails in crowd funded ventures it seems. at least 80% of the time id say. shame.

I also miss Destroy-X, but The Product is a nice surprise for me. I was really disappointed with HMNI (which is by far their worst album for far - apart from the remix albums) but I find The Product more innovative and less repetitive. Of course, it's miles away from their first albums and I can't help thinking it would have been much better with Amelia but it's largely listenable. Maybe I'm biased by the fact that HMNI was really a huge letdown for me though.

Perhaps they should borrow a page out of Aesthetic Perfection's book and reinvent their sound. Obviously I am not saying for them to make a popish album like he just released, but I am referring to the fact that he was able to feel it was time to push his creativity towards a different direction rather then beating a dead horse because rather you hate his new album or not one thing you can't say about "til death" is it doesn't have soul and true feeling behind it as you can tell he had a blast making that album. That said God Module just put out false face which was essentially more of the same, but they did not miss a step and while nothing game changing they put out one hell of a new album. Proving that sticking to what you know and love works just fine as long as you still put your entire soul into the music. I believe angelspit are in a creative rut spinning in circles unable to move forward rather it be lack of an ability or not admitting to themselves their act has become stale.

  • DJSaryrn

You are correct bready that it's not just the lack of destroyX, tho I do feel both vocally and aesthetically she has always been a big part of angelspits charm. I did not enjoy "hello my name is" very much either, but Amelia was able to help salvage that album enough for it not to be a total flop with me. Truth be told the band has either lost the spark that once drove them or perhaps they have hit a wall talent wise or dare I say perhaps their first few albums were just lighting in a bottle and they've ran their well dry creatively. While not an exact comparison Ayria and the birthday massacre have been able to not only hold onto their magic, they seem to only get better and bring more to the table each new album while still never losing their true roots. Where as angelspit only seems to get weaker and unable to properly evolve let alone hold onto the essence that defines who they once were. While Destroyx would have been nice to have I am not sure even she could salvage the product.

  • breadysoul

Having listened to it, it's not the lack of DestroyX for me. It's something deeper than that. The music is... stagnant, lacking obvious innovation, and it's not something that started with The Product. Angelspit is, and has always been, unique in their sound (something I've always really liked about them), but that alone isn't enough. A lot of the newer stuff hasn't gripped me, excited me. But that's just me. I can't speak for everyone, obviously. I find The Product listenable (I do like Angelspit's sound after all), but it isn't particularly memorable.

That's disappointing to hear because that's exactly what I was expecting. I'll still give it a shot, of course, but I'm not expecting anything mind blowing. :(

Zoog is far from talentless, but this album does him no favors, outside of a few tracks it falls flat in a number of areas. As a fan I can only hope it's true amelia will be back for the next album or if zoog does carry forward the angelspit flag with out her that he is able to tap into his angelic side and inject some much needed soul and not just a mouthful of spit. Of Course I am just a lone fan, but I really can't picture a warm reception for this "product".

    März 2014
  • DJSaryrn

Product is an appropriate name for the album as this album indeed felt as nothing more than just a random product as opposed to a work of art compared to past albums. Take the angel out of equation and you are simply left with spit. The absence of amelia really shows and despite being flooded with an array of guest vocals and loud clashing of music it simply comes across as meaningless noise. Not to say a good deal of effort wasn't put into this album as it is clear zoog and company put alot of blood and sweat into it. That said I am left wondering if despite the great deal of work put into this album, maybe zoog's heart wasn't truly into the album despite all of the hype he tried to generate for it because this album lacks true soul. Makes you wonder if all the self hype about the product was to convince the fans angelspit is better than ever or perhaps he was just trying to convince himself.

Hello My Name Is had some wonderful tracks on it...but for the most part I listen to 3 songs or so and that's it. The new album, imo, won't be as good because Amelia is gone. I listened to it for her voice the most, and I liked that Karl's contrasted hers well. I do like a few artists he's collaborated with but part of me thinks "is this just because Amelia was booted?"
