New releases from Soda Fountain Rag & Michael Knight + yesboyicecream sale
26. Jan. 2008, 15:25
Another year over and a new one just begun as 2007 succumbs to 2008. yesboyicecream can think of no better way to wish the world a happy new calendar year by announcing the release of great music.
First up is the spectacularly brilliant debut album by the musical universe that is Ragnhild Hogstad Jordahl's Soda Fountain Rag. It's Rag Time! is 14 slices of compelling, clever and moreish pop. We're really shit at describing original music but, if we had to, we'd ask you to imagine an anti-folk Nico fronting a garage hybrid of The June Brides, Belle and Sebastian and YMCK.
Comes in an attractive cardboard gatefold wallet and is accompanied by a lyrics booklet.
It's Rag Time! - Soda Fountain Rag
Next up is an extraordinary new release by Michael Knight, which is guaranteed to cement their reputation as one of the most singular popartists around. Having received an avalanche of critical bouquets for their limited release debut album Youth Is Wasted On The Young , Michael Knight return after a two-year absence with I'm Not Entirely Clear How I Ended Up Like This, the logical progression in indiepop anti-hero R. Murphy's crusade to marry classical structures to classic pop. Phrases such as "sweeping strings, haunting harmonies and dramatic mood swings" provide a (clichéd) approximation of the sonic palette on offer.
This is a double cd - one cd is an instrumental version of the other (which really has to be heard to be appreciated just how good it is). Someone really bad at describing music might invoke the idea of Modest Mussorgsky backing Jens Lekman .
I'm Not Entirely Clear How I Ended Up Like This - Michael Knight
Both releases are 'officially' out in April, distributed by Cargo Records but we wanted to give those who cannot, or will not, wait an opportunity to get their grubby mitts on them immediately. So, both are available from yesboyicecream directly NOW!
