The Moroccan gnawa player Majid Bekkas was awarded the Prix Al Farabi by Morocco's Comité National de la Musique in December 2010. The committee underlined his work in showcasing gnawa music internationally, while creating a blend with jazz and other influences.

Bekkas, signed to the IglooMondo label, has toured Europe extensively and appeared on the Rêves D'Oasis: Desert Blues 2 (disc 1) compilation. His latest release is Makenba.
