frkoed... the leadership in america will forever be floored unless the corporations are killed and presidents chosen through a TRUE democratic process... lets get rid of the cfr, trilateral, bilderberg, wto world bank, freemasons and all who wish to clandestinely destroy the freedoms of the world...

the most sickening thing about this whole situation is how the Ossetians' desire for independence (a cultural group that's been around for centuries) just flat out gets ignored! all of the nation-states' media of the world (i.e. everyone from Russia to Georgia, Israel and the US) view them as mere pawns to serve the strategic interests of some "sovereign" state. and naturally, they don't have a powerful enough media to have their interests heard.

Global condemnation of Russia is not likely. the EU receives so much of its oil and natural gas (and therefore, economic stability) from Russia that those countries media and governments are unlikely to say too much. Sanctions on Russia, for example, means higher prices on Russian oil and natural gas. and the more these nations do receive from Russia, the less harsh they're likely to be in their criticism. the only reason that the US and Israel speak out so harshly against Russia is because Georgia serves as a military buffer for them in that region.

I believe the global condemnation of Russia's policy towards Georgia lacks seriousness in a way. First of all, we're not considering the true threat Russia represents now that it has attacked the very capital of Georgia, thus entering its territory, like hadn't happened since Afghanistan. Secondly, with an issue such as Chechnya, what gives the right to Russia to support the separatist governments of Abkhasia and South Ossetia? They're even considering recognising their sovereignty, which I believe goes way too far.

Darahas, you are right. Although Russia probably deserves condemnation for many of its domestic policies (as many industrial nations do!), the mainstream media's unanimous derision of "Russian aggression" in the case of Georgia is misleading and far-fetched. Here are two editorials that shed a much brighter light on the situation: Jenkins: http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2008/aug/13/russia.georgia?commentpage=5&commentposted=1 Gorbachev: http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2008/aug/13/russia.georgia1

People of the world. You deceive! World mass media conduct propagation of a false information. Russia DID NOT ATTACK Georgia! 07.08.2008 at 22:00 Georgia has attacked South Ossetia. At 3:30 08.08.2008 tanks of the Georgian armies have entered into city Tskhinvali. Artillery bombardment all the day long proceeded, fights with use of tanks and heavy combat material, both against ossetic armies, and against peace inhabitants were conducted. 2000 civil people already were lost.
