Feedback on the beta mobile site

Have a play with the mobile version of the Last.fm site on your phone, and let us know what you think.

    Known issues
There are no music or videos. One day we'll be able to bring this to you on your phone but for now, we hope you'll find the music and event information helpful and entertaining. (f you have an iPhone, you can download our streaming app here.)

We're not yet automatically redirecting mobile browsers to the mobile version of the site - we expect to start doing that shortly.

The music page with its two search boxes should be...erm...better!

(First: sry for my crappy language.)

Very Nice. I was waiting a long time for such a thing. Loading the last.fm page on my symbian OS cellphone took about 1,5MB/page.

    My suggestions:
    add:

    -"paint it black" option
    - access to radio streaming
    - groups + groupforum etc.

    regards,

    kk3000

EDIT: btw, if you could, redirect the m.last.fm page to symbian Browser on nokia, so i can test it on my cellphones.

    Location option does not work

The Location option does not work on my iPhone (3G with OS 2.2)! Am I the only one with this problem?

    k800i, OperaMini 4.2 - works perfectly!

I'm only missing groups and forums, without it m.last.fm is useless for me and I'm swithing to regular Last.fm.

  • Thank you for this, I've been waiting years!!!

HTC Touch Pro, Opera Mobile 9.5, looks great.
Because of the VGA screen the profile and album images are really small but I don't mind so much, since I'm not looking for graphics on the phone version.

My #1 use of last.fm while on my phone is when I'm at events and I like one of the opening artists I've never heard before I want to find out which of their 6 albums for sale is most listened to, so I can make the most of my $20. So...

    - I really wish the upcoming events on the home page were clickable the same as they are when you see them in your events section. It's the same info, only one is a link and one isn't.

    - I wish that "Top Albums" was a link on the artist page. I know I can get there through charts and changing the dropdown but a single link to duplicate the field in the main site would be nice.

With those two changes I can get the info I want in 3 clicks instead of 6 clicks and a dropdown list.

That's really all I can think of that I'd change, the rest works great.

All comments reflect the views of the poster and not of last.fm or it's management.

  • My only suggestion would be that the 404 page could be improved a bit. The current page ("this is a 404") doesn't give much information.
    For example:
Sometimes I have attempted to access pages which exist on the regular site, but do not have a mobile equivalent. In this case the 404 page could say something like:

This page is not available on the mobile site.
    View page on regular site

  • I stumbled across a reference to the mobile site in the website forum and I decided to check it out. Overall, it's great. Well done. I did notice a few quirks that I thought I might mention here.

Events don't show dates. Only the artist, venue and day of week are shown.

Search boxes (seem to) assume that we're only looking for artist names. A known last.fm screen name that does not have match an artist name returns no matches. It would be nice to have the drop-down list next to the search control as it is on the main site.

The second-level settings pages in my profile do not render correctly. For example, the settings >> location page shows the breadcrumbs and the text "truffaldino,". Nothing else. Note the comma.

With my (240x320) screen in either orientation the view is a "few" too many pixels wide causing the horizontal scroll-bar to appear. There is no content in these "few" (i.e. < 5) pixels. This doesn't happen on every page. I have not catalogued which pages (but I will if it's helpful).

I realise that some (or all) of these may be flaws in the browser's renderer. I'm using the default Symbian browser built into my Nokia E66.

I'll add to the show of hands for access to inbox and fora (I suppose I'd say all the people-to-people messaging stuff). I can't imagine updating the wiki from my phone. I'm showing my age but I'd put streaming low on the TODO list with video streaming at the bottom.

Readers with Symbian phones should have a look at Mobbler Users.

This is no longer the case. The page rendered correctly and I was able to change my location.

My back-up hard-drive with all my music on it crashed last week, and have been using LastFM more frequently then I used to (and loving it BTW). Mobile is a GREAT new feature, but unfortunately doesn't serve me much use until music streaming to my phone becomes an option. I bluetooth my phone to a stereo all the time (too lasy to pull out CDs), so I'm really "keen" on the idea of getting LastFM in locations that don't have computers.

    THX!

    the future is now!

I will ditto the sentiment that without streaming ... I haven't much use for last.fm on my phone. I am pleased to see a mobile site that fits my phone and doesn't distract with unnecessary clutter.

All efforts are appreciated and I love the site.

I definitely agree. While the current Last.fm mobile is pretty cool in concept, the main features aren't there. I like being able to use it from time to time to show my top albums on the go, but I'll use it way more once more features are added - specifically, streaming radio.
BTW - I use an LG Incite with a 240x480/480x240 resolution and it looks great.

  • I really enjoy the m.last.fm iPhone application!

I would like to recommend to all m.last.fm members who have an iPhone to take advantage of their outstanding iPhone application. I think it is wonderful and I find myself listening to the wonderful jazz music while I am at home, via my wireless network, as well as, at Barnes and Nobles, Starbucks, McDonald's and other WiFi locations I can get some out of the office consulting work done. Thanks for a fantastic program. Keep up the good work!

  • Can't wait...

Just signed up and checked out the mobile site on my BlackBerry Storm 9500 using Opera Mini and BlackBerry browsers, everything is there and renders well, now I'm just waiting for the music :-)

The mobile version surprised me at first but it was okay. Despite having to load again when I saw something of interest, it was pretty neat. With the new website, you either love it or hate it. Though the problem with event dates and searches have got to be fixed. I'd also like for the side info bar to be added unless if last.fm plans a tracker.

  • no music no party!

nice site! come on! give us the mobile streaming..

  • I'd like to see a friends section on m.
I mean, I don't seem to be able to add/remove friends nor accept/deny friendship requests - I also don't think such a function would be hard to implement, not that I have any coding experience.. :p

    whats the point?

i really just don't see the point of a music site without music. i can't find anything new without hearing it. I wish the app from last year would come back, i could actually play music with that..

  • i think the site requires just too many clicks to get the info ...
more information can be displayed on a page
take the profile page as example, info like recent tracks and shoutbox should be displayed ...

it's better to have more pics on the site, like artists' pic or album artwork next to the tracks
but some ppl may want to save usage so u may consider allowing ppl choose to have pics on the site as well

besides, i can't find "inbox" on the mobile site

    thanks.

    - horizontal scrollbar appearing on browser for s60 (nokia n95)
    - no inbox
    - no "send message" links

Although the mobile site is worthless to me without streaming, I can see how it is very useful for other people. I really appreciate all that you've done.

May I suggest that you make it more obvious to the user that no matter where they look, streaming is not going to be possible? Unless I missed something, this fact seems to be buried pretty deep in documentation. A small note at the bottom of the page would have saved me a lot of time and frustration.

So far so good but the functionality I miss most is the ability to manually add stuff to my library. I don't need a tagging dialog (although I wouldn't object).

I use an HTC Hero branded as T-Mobile G2

Access to inbox and compose would also be sweet

  • 1. I think it'd be nice to be able to view full profile's.

    2. See comments on bands' profiles (this is usually how I decide whether or not I'll give the band a listen, based on negative/positive commentary)

    3. Artists' top songs on thier page. Choice by album or overall.

    4. Status updates <3

    5. How many friends like this band. Example: "12 friends like this artist."

    6. Leave shouts

    7. Check forums from the app.

^ With these suggestions, I believe Last.fm on Android would no doubtedly be a 5 star, next gen app. A definate must have for any music lover.
