    Jazz is a huge genre, and the idea of it revolving around improvisation and solos is a bop thing. Many of the most famous Jazz musicians come from that genre and the genres that sprung from it for that reason.

    you should really check out the connected artists, every single one fits the criteria you just listed. and to limiting jazz to showcase solos around individual musicians, is greatly limiting how you can enjoy the genre. listen to sun ra, the subtleties of his music which utilizes many musicians is what i enjoy the most.
