imhuman I want to say this group is phenomenal thanks for it. I understand how difficult it must be to catagorize what future jazz can imply as it has alot to do with what an individuals vision might be. But thats whats so great. Recognizing those musicians that are doing something new and unique or pushing boundries.

SirAlecHendrix actually, i don't know how spyro gyra got into the artist connections, and i have disconnected them.
Januar 2009 -

SirAlecHendrix BTW, a 'featured artists' station with 15 artists only will follow, so that we can focus on a smaller group of good suggestions, and this radio can be "rotated", i.e. the compilation will change frequently.
Januar 2009 -

SirAlecHendrix you're welcome. at this moment i'm excited about creating great streaming radio stations. last.fm's group radio is a great feature but it relies on member's listening habits which of course might not exactly match a group's purpose. that's why it doesn't make any sense to mourn about whoever pops up in the charts, i couldn't care less. we now have a RELIABLE RADIO which we CAN MANAGE exactly as we WANT it to HAVE. makes sense ? so feel free to add great suggestions !

moridin247 Hey Alec I just wanted to say thanks for the "Play Artist Compilation" link up above. I love to listen to that at work when I don't have access to my library.

SirAlecHendrix acid jazz is a style i listened to in the late 80s. at this time, for me, it was a fusion of caribbean, salsa, rap, soul and funk with jazzy elements, and i even didn't accept it as a subgenre of jazz, but today i do. it had nothing to do with drugs, and the term "acid" doesn't mean anything specific, i only interpreted it for myself as "yummy", "gum", "rubberish" because that's how the music did sound to me. BTW i run an acid jazz group : Blow Up where you can find the original artist connections of the UK and US scenes of the 80s and 90s --- today, "acid jazz" has become a synonym for all kind of 'groove jazz' including DJ mixes. "nu" is only one of many appearances of "new" or "neo", and what it means completeley depends of what follows. "nu-jazz" is a misnomer because again mostly it's just acid jazz with electronic means, sometimes called 'electronic jazz', but in fact it often is only a stylish kind of vocal jazz. 'nu-jazz' usually is confused with 'future jazz'.
Januar 2009 -
namnatulco Is there a clear definition for nu-jazz and acid jazz? Personally I thought 'nu-' stood for the use of modern music (in the sense of modern pop music), much like nu-metal borrows from hip-hop, while acid implies some sort of association with drugs (compare acid house). Is this somewhat in the right direction? Thanks in advance!

Dezember 2008 -
dadapapa nice to see Stockhausen so high up in the unique weekly top charts.
Dezember 2008 -

SirAlecHendrix where can i listen to Our Theory ? they are not streamed on last.fm.
Dezember 2008 -
selim714 I still think Our Theory should be included. You've already got Erik Truffaz here and he's a founding member of this group. You have The Yellowjackets and no Nels Cline or Skerik.
Dezember 2008 -
Meshugg Hi Guys, thank you for sharing those artists. I'm searching for music like that for a while now.

keeletu "top artist" is a mainstream category, we don't have to focus on it (=
November 2008 -

InASafePlace this group's chart start making more sense. If Radiohead completely dissapeared it would be even better :P

3pbeats http://www.last.fm/music/Uniquetunes check out these guys from St. Petersburg, Russia
November 2008 -

SirAlecHendrix hi morbid, makes sense to me.
November 2008 -
morbidsymptoms Alec, unless I'm wrong, your ''math'' IS inaccurate. I understood that no matter how many times a user plays an artist in a week, it will only show in the group ''once''. So if you play RH a million times or once in a week it gives a 1 score for RH on the group list. This stops groups being ' flooded' by obsessives who play a single artist over and over. Therefore, on your example 7members have listened to RH in the week. Sorry to be boring; just thought you ought to know.
November 2008 -
salacio I was just listening to The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble, this week's featured artist. Nice stuff, very chill.
Oktober 2008 -
Yulemir Listen to http://www.last.fm/music/Yul+Emir instead of radiohead. Never had a marketing budget, but do have lots of interesting musical ideas.
Oktober 2008 -

SirAlecHendrix members listen to more radiohead, they are only #2 this week ... okay, let's get serious. know what ? of all our 37 members, 1 member ONLY needs to listen 7 times to RH IN THE LAST 7 DAYS ( or 7 members each 1 time, do the math) ! the result : they appear as #2. that's all.
Oktober 2008 -
Yulemir Been playing keys for 26 years . Here are some of my tunes. http://www.last.fm/music/Yul+Emir. Be honoured if you take a listen. My video www.myspace.com/yulemir

ifmusicbe Hi all! New to last.fm, but already have seen discussions on Radiohead, being baaad. Listen to a lot of music, but my intuitive side apparentely have avoided him. Till yesterday, when I found it scrobbled into my library. Listened to the track, and it was the most meak (right word?) I'd heard in a long time. Deleted it immediately. How come he is number 3 here?? Then again it's always fun w different opinions and discussions... :) To see Richard Bona as a connected artist is so much more gratifying... Cheers!

bonekhan This group earns my full approval.
Oktober 2008 -
wishez good group here, too bad it's not that active.
Oktober 2008 -

SirAlecHendrix for all to know : acid jazz / nu-jazz and some fusion and danceable groove jazz styles incl. jazz funk, jazz rap and afrobeat etc. is featured at this moment in the Nu•Jazz•Garden

david1003 Hey guys, is anyone going to the Cinematic gig at the roundhouse? i can't wait! have you seen they are releasing a live CD and photos from the gig? sounds good to me :) think it's available from concert live again - they recorded last years Barbican show too:concertlive. co. uk - just wanted to let you all know too :)
Oktober 2008 -
moridin247 I enjoy fusion, nu jazz and ambient music but I don't listen to enough of it so hopefully this group will help me out :)
Oktober 2008 -

SirAlecHendrix Kammerflimmer Kollektief and Bohren & der Club of Gore are already connected to this future jazz group ! Bersarin Quartett is this week's featured artist in the AiRport, because what i listened to is not jazz but ambient music.
Oktober 2008 -

InASafePlace I dont really listen to jazz but I love bands like Kammerflimmer Kollektief, Bohren & Der Club of Gore, Bersarin Quartett, dunno if you could consider them as jazz though, but seems like some people do. Anyone for a good recommendation that suits my habits?
Oktober 2008 -

SirAlecHendrix decpet : [re:jazz] - this has been my shout at their artist's page : nice, such a versatile modern jazz group, mostly acoustical, citing and covering older pop tunes, balancing traditional and more "acid" sounding jazz styles, and let themselves remixed. after listening to their tracks i realize that "electronic/a" , "electro" and even "nu-jazz" (adimittedly, they do play some nu-jazz pieces) don't fit for this group IMHO. - i had connected them to the Nu•Jazz•Garden, because their music is nice to dance to.
September 2008 -

SirAlecHendrix tergan : thx for the rec, nice time signature, yes Don Ellis is definitely worth to be added to our group ( and to the new j a z z | h a u s too ).
September 2008 -
decpet Question: will there be a playlist soon? The group "Re Jazz" I can recommend to watch out for.
September 2008 -

tergan that's Don Ellis btw, forgot the artist in that last shout. have you heard him? if not you must hear these 2 trks
September 2008 -

tergan i just realized this whole album is now available for full length streaming: Live At Monterey, excellent, especially recommend 33 222 1 222 and Concerto For Trumpet
