Favourite Ye-Ye Girl song

  • Favourite Ye-Ye Girl song

    List 'em here!

I think my all-time favourites are France Gall's 'Cet Air-La' and Les Gamines' 'Vie donc ta vis mon gars'.

But at the moment I'm becoming quite obsessed with Chantal Goya. My current favourite of hers is maybe 'J'ai Le Coeur En Joie, J'ai Le Coeur En Peine'.

And my ultra, ultra obsession right now is the Gainsbourg & Anna Karina duet 'Ne Dis Rien', after seeing the video for it on the new Gainsbourg DVDs. Anna is incredible.

  • HELLO? Hello hello hello... (echo)

  • I agree with you, Anna is amazing.
Maybe we should start a group about her. I love so much Mic et Mac -from Godard's Pierrot le Fou- and Roller Girl -from 'Anna'-.

My favourite Ye-Ye song is probably Laisse tomber Les Filles. But I also have a particular devotion to Sandie Shaw (and her french and italians recordings).

It's no good pretending that any relationship has a future if your record collections disagree violently or if your favorite films wouldn't even speak to each other if they met at a party.
  • Good idea about an Anna Karina group. Maybe you should start it, as I don't know that much about her.
I'm desperate to see 'Anna', I can't understand why it hasn't been released. I did find a DVD copy on Amazon Japan, but I hesitate to fork over the cash not knowing if it's subtitled in English.

  • One of my friends bought it here but in fact is a no subtitled version.

    However, join the AK's group!

  • Thanks, pollyscake, that's cheaper than the one from Japan. I probably will get it even without the subtitles, just to see those songs performed. And the plan is one day to learn French properly...

my favourite is "Chanson Pour Que Tu M'Aimes Un Peu" by France Gall

  • It should be a song of France Gall...mmmmaybe "Nous ne sommes pas des anges" =^-^=

  • My faves:

Jacqueline Taïeb: "Le Printemps a Paris", "Ce soir je m'en vais".
Sylvie Vartan: "Ne t'en vas pas"
Françoise Hardy: "L'eta Dell'amore", "Comment te dire adieu", "Rendezvous D'autumne"

The Jacq Taï song in bold is my standout fave.

I tend to prefer a lot of the more downbeat, sentimental type songs, so France Gall misses out. But if I had to choose one of hers, I think I'd go with Bebe Réquin.

At the moment, I'd say Françoise Hardy - La fille avec toi. But like anything, that's subject to change. Her "Le temps de l'amour" is also terrific..

  • ca pourrait changer by bb. for its feminist lyrics and its swing!

Maybe "Cousin Kneypper" by Violaine for me, that one's a scorcher. It's hard for me to pick a song that stands out from the pack, although I can say Swinging Mademoiselles 2 is my favorite comp. Pussy Cat is my fave artiste as far as doing covers of British and US tunes. My favorite Taieb track is Bienvenue au pays, BB would be L'appareil a sous, France Gall maybe Laisse tomber les filles, Francoise always changes but currently J'aurai voulu and Je veux qu'il revienne.

btw I have a copy of Anna on videotape that was apparently dubbed from either a Japanese laserdisc or DVD, I can't remember if it has subtitles but it might not. The plot is fairly simple and relies on the old Clark Kent device- the boss is obsessed with finding her, but doesn't recognize her from the picture since her glasses had slipped off! Definitely worth seeing though, let's hope for a wide re-release.

  • Someone was kind enough to send me a copy of Anna since I posted here, and it's amazing... no subtitles, but easy enough to follow and worth seeing for the visual and sonic feast it is anyway.

I also found it on eMule - if you're an eMule or eDonkey or whatever else works with ed2k links, copy this link.

still getting my education on the ye-ye girls but...

    i like:
    -SYLVIE VARTAN
    -Francoise Hardy
    -Sylvie Vartan
    -France Gall
    -Françoise Hardy
    -Marie Laforet

I admit i need to check out some more albums...

  • My favourites, which are ever changing, of course:

Jacqueline Taïeb - "7 Heures du Matin". Few songs from this era seem to rock as hard as this one does.
Françoise Hardy - "La Maison Ou J'ai Grandi" (My favourite song of hers), although I seem to be listening to more of "Comment Te Dire Adieu" recently.
France Gall - "Cinq Minutes d'Amour"
Stella - "Tu Dis Toujours Oui"

I also love April March's "Tu Mens", but have yet to hear the Gillian Hills original. I imagine I'd love the original, too!

I have to agree about Jacqueline Taïeb's 7 Heures... Although I did feel a little let down when I heard the english version. Being heroically ignorant of the French language, I'd imagined the lyrics to be something impossibly sexy rather than just her moaning about not being able to find her toothbrush.

Other than that, it would have to be France Gall. Le Temps du Tempo, 24 36 or Les Petit Ballons (I bet Beck wishes he came up with that riff - has anyone sampled it?).

  • That's exactly what I said on my blog when I posted 'Les Petits Ballons' - that I kept thinking it was a Beck song whenever it came on my player! :)

    Great minds and all that...

I didn't know you'd posted it. I must admit to being a bit of a Johnny-come-lately to Spiked Candy.

  • "Censure" by Aline, "Oui, Je Dis Adieu" or "Viens" by Francois Hardy. Anything off of La Question, really.

Ce N'est Pas Triste - Les Petites Souris
Je changerais d'avis - Françoise Hardy
    Stop! - Pussy Cat
Chanson pour que tu m'aimes un peu - France Gall
    Petit Sucre - Chantal Kelly
    La Fermeture Eclair - Delphine
Que mas te da - Karina
    Sans Astérisque - Dani
Allez, Tapez Dans Les Mains - Maria Cinta
Tu Fais Partie Du Passé - ZouZou
La Chanson Bête Et Méchante - Clothilde

"Nothing is true, everything is permitted"
  • I am not original:

France Gall/ Poupee de cire, poupee de son
Francoise Hardy /Comment Te Dire Adieu
