As expected, Mike Patton everything is great, Hemophiliac is really the weirdest, as well as his solo CD "Adult Themes for Voice"

Also good: the minimalism and complete genre disregard of Bill Laswell's projects. Sunn 0))), and ginnungagap are most excellent drone, but for the most bowel shaking of them all, I reccomend Earth, the cd Earth 2: Special Low Frequency Edition. The third song (of three) is 30 minutes of one subtly fluctuating chord, strum once at the beginning, and let ring. wow.

    Music is way too good.

Yeah, Patton is great.. and his solo albums are.. I don't know.. surely weird and I listened to it ones and I had enough. But it's amazing show of his vocal range, must say that!

Does it need to be metal?

'cuz Messer Chups are pretty weird =)

Certainly not, I say. And yeah, I really like Messer Chups. If you lose the variety, so goes the eclectic, a major tenant of "wierdness". Mike Patton just happens to be one of the leaders of the creation of current music, and the near explosion, in my mind, of music since the 90s. Along with many notable others, of course. (Im thinking of John Zorn, Bill Laswell, and Bjork right now)

Back to the point, Heres some excellent non-metal bands.
Nobukazu Takemura, especially the cd Assembler. Organized noise, for sure.
phonosycographDISK is an experimental DJ, who recorded an amazing CD with Buckethead, and Primus members Les Claypool, and brain mantia. Simply amazing, the CD is called Turbulance Chest: Live at Slims.
    Whiew, thats enough.

    Music is way too good.

okay..I think I saw Sigur Ros in the charts so here's another post rock band - Explosions in the Sky ; add Gong as well - psychedelic/space rock, I'm willing to say they have a mental disease ;)

"Look, mummy, there's an aeroplane up in the sky! "

I agree there are more experimetal metal bands than others. It's because connections were added from my charts and I listen to metal often, but even underground hiphop, funk, electro etc.
That is why I created this group.. I want to know whats new in experimental, avat-garde music and see people with similar taste:)

By the way, everything's added, thank you all :)

Um, I realized some things should be added:
For the scariest music ever, listen to Sleepytime Gorilla Museum. Anti-humanism is no better expressed in music.
Meshuggah is an excellent math metal band, their 20 minuite long EP I is a masterpiece of completely uncountable time signatures and savagery.

    Music is way too good.

Ok then, Melt Bananna is experimental noise like OOIOO, and Lightning Bolt is like either of them, with a more ponderous, less experimental sound. Ornette Coleman and John Coletrane are experimental and artists similar to John Zorn, and Terry Bozzio should be mentioned in here as well for being one of the best and most expressionist drummers out there, and playing with such greats as Frank Zappa, Fantomas, members of Dream Theater, and Billy Sheehan.

    Music is way too good.
  • Crotchduster is very weird and one of my faves
