  • Favorite Boss theme (s)

Well I'm a huge fan of Boss themes. They really get me going and ready for the pending Boss fight. I have a few but I'll try to list as many as I can think of.

Persona 3 - Master of Tartarus
    Persona 3 - Unavoidable Battle
Final Fantasy VII - Still More Fighting
Final Fantasy VIII - Force Your Way
Final Fantasy IX - Boss Theme
    Final Fantasy X - 2: Boss Theme
Tales of Symphonia - The Law of The Battle
    Chrono Cross - Dragon God
Breath of Fire III - Donden
Breath of Fire III - Conflict of Dragons
Breath of Fire III - Everyday Battle
Albert Odyssey: Legend of Eldean - Boss Theme
Albert Odyseey: Legend of Eldean - Fallen Angel

That's all I can think of right now. :X

Those are some VERY nice choices, I love the music from Valkyrie Profile
Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne - Boss Battle

Whatever the boss theme was at the end of Vagrant Story is another one I'm fond of, just too lazy to check the name or provide anymore.

  • No one has already put One Winged Angel from Final Fantasy Seven? I'm not even a video game nerd and I know that one!

Great question, but it's not easy to mentally go through all the video game music you have heard and remember all the boss themes.

I can mention one great boss theme at this time: Golden Axe II - Boss Theme 2.

Great trumpet melody, nice brass arrangement, cool rythm with snare accents.

You can find sega megadrive/genesis music at http://project2612.org

    Oh man. The ones from:

Sonic the Hedgehog 1 and 2
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time (SNES)
    Mega Man X

I feel like the oddman here, everyone's mentioning RPG games and I'm all up in the old school 2-Ds. Anyways, if anyone's interested in what I listed. PM me.

I actually prefer the first boss theme in that game http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=9yVqgy_KqRY

Other themes I like(among many) are the one ones in Streets of Rage 2, Sonic 1, Mario 64 and the Final Fantasy VII Still More Fighting theme

Boss themes are usually my fave part of a games soundtrack.

That's also good. There is an interesting thing regarding that tune. I think the composer of Super Mario World ripped it off (or possibly the other way around, I don't remember wich game came first, maybe they were released the same year?)

It's the "Sub Castle" tune; the main theme or chorus section has exactly the same harmonies and bass line. The melodies are different though.

    Listen from about 0:53 minutes.

And compare with golden axe II (from 0:09):

  • There are lots of very good boss themes, but two are above the rest:

Last Ninja 2 - The Final Boss

I mean, the Last Ninja series had probably the best soundtrack ever for a game series. The music in their loading screens was better than every single other game's whole soundtrack at that time. What a masterpiece.

One of the best appearances by a boss ever: Thunder Force IV Stage Boss Gargoyle Diver.

There are also many arranged versions of it.

I've actually started collating boss themes I know of in a tag It would be great if people could add to it any I don't know, particularly if their streamable here. most of the playable ones i've found so far are remixes but there are some originals around.

The tag page looks a bit bare at the moment, I think it takes a while for them to fully generate.
