We'll know where when we get there
  • ... and we're slow at coming forward, too.
TV since birth in 1969 and have spent much of the intervening time sliding up and down a greasy pole of gender identity, sometimes enjoying it, sometimes not.
Mother was a piano teacher and piano music is my first musical love but I'm interested in music from a variety of periods and styles. My main interest is probably 20th century composed music but I listen to jazz and occasionally rock. Actually, looking at your list of artists above, I've seen a few of them (Psychic TV, Sonic Youth, Wire, Nick Cave) but that was a long time ago. I'm lucky to live in central London and used to get out to see some of the world's finest orchestras and musicians until my partner and I had a baby, over a year ago. Now I do nearly all my listening at home, usually while cooking for or playing with my son. Sometimes we dance together. We dance to the music of Iannis Xenakis, Brahms, John Coltrane and many others. He's teaching me a lot.

I'm 32 FTM, composer. I like to listen to punk rock, riot grrrl, electronica, some indy hip hop. Um actually, I like music from nearly every genre, provided it's good.

I compose noise music. I'm here as Celeste Hutchins and Les Hutchins. I haven't sorted out yet what to do about my name. The later one has low goggleability.

foods: Frikandel is scary. As are bitterbollen and boschebollen. But vla is good. Sadly, I miss Dutch food since I moved to England.

  • hey ya'll. i'm floored that i have similar tastes to other trans people; usually i'm happy enough to meet just any other reasonably intelligent trans person! i'm 28 and MTF.

my tastes are kind of all over the place from the occultish stuff wendyvortex mentioned to italo/baia disco to any pop music that cheers me up. and i've got mixed up industrial / punk / goth / death rock roots. and have had a lot of brief obsessions with different things, which i'm usually able to revive and rediscover periodically.

celesteh, you're one of the lj_feminist mods aren't you? i'm not longer a member but it's cool to see you here, and whoa wtf another trans noise musician!? i've covered a bit of ground musically but don't have much online these days; kinda been on hiatus while trying to get transition and life straightened out.

    anyway, cheers yall.
    -Sophia

  • This is as good a place as any to ask; there was some talk in the shoutbox of opening up to trans-friendly folks, but I wasn't 100% sure what the decision was and I don't want to overstep. So before I introduce myself, is it ok for me to come play in the sandbox? ;c)

  • Hey entendante if you consider yourself trans-friendly and you want to join this group than you're welcome. Greetings!

We'll know where when we get there
  • Hi all.

I'm Emily, an Australian trans woman currently living in the US with my girlfriend. I record as Emily In Love, kinda indie-pop-tronica.

I like amazingness in all its varieties, particularly indiepop and electrosleaze. Favourite bands include The Pipettes, Postal Service, Stars, Camera Obscura, Dragonette, Architecture in Helsinki, Ladyhawke, Bowie, Placebo and Prince. I also like other kinds of less sleazy electronic music - Kompakt style minimal, IDM etc.

    I hope I passed the audition ;)

  • gosh, i was so excited about this group that i forgot to introduce myself. sorry for the multiple posts, i will back down a bit after this and not splatter the male privilege everywhere.

so, i'm nix, i'm australian, i'm trans *and* moderately genderqueer. i'm allegedly working on a phd at the moment (on trans identity and cinema, to be vague), but i'm just as frequently out walking, going on holidays, blogging, making music, eating cheese (and other good vegetarian food), drinking whisky and tea (and other lovely drinks) and enjoying the company of friends.

i kind of like a lot of different music, though i admit i tend towards listening acoustic stuff. the things i dislike are vapid or outright nasty (homophobic/racist/misogynist/etc) lyrics (i'm big on lyrics) and too much treble in the mix (hurts my ears).

  • Hey Emily welcome! I'll check some of your music. Greetings!

We'll know where when we get there
  • Right then! I'm M.E. (I have a real name, and a professional identity, but they're exceedingly boring and unmusical.) This is the name I blog under (http://quenchzine.blogspot.com), which is much more fun and rather more relevant. As the userpic suggests, I'm a queer femme (which is decently genderqueer in some contexts) partnered to a stellar and studly trans man. (Our third anniversary was Monday, actually.) I'm also a linguist, an American, and a rigid obeyer of triple-parallel structure.

My musical tastes are all over the map: Celtic (I play the harp and sing), pop-folk, folk-rock, folk-folk, bubblegum punk, nerdcore, and whatever it is you call what Nix does. Basically, I'll cross any genre boundary for the sake of good lyrics. And I always welcome recommendations. :c)

(first recommendation = lay off the parentheses?)

  • Congratulations with your anniversary. Maybe we could start with a great lyrics-topic for you. My favorite lyrics are those of Sonic Reducer by The Dead Boys. That's my f**k-you-all-i'm-the-best-song hihihi. Don't know if you consider this to be a good lyrics song.
Anyway listening to my sonic reducer (=headphones) right now.

And welcome to the group here!

We'll know where when we get there
  • Introduction

Hello. I'm Jaden Skyfire. I'm 20 (almost 21 yeay!!!) I'm a trance/industrial/rave/darkwave TransFemale. I've not actually started yet, and have more than a few problems with that, but it would be pointless to overload this with s**tty feelings. lol. I am the soul artist in the Trance project Skyfire (has nothing to do with the metal band) and I love music, music, more music, oh yeah, and Idaho Spuds (the chocolate if anyone knows what I'm talking about). I live in the U.S., deliver pizzas, and attempt to raise a 19 month old, with my mate while we have another on the way. I'm going to school for network security. I'm also looking for another state to live in that is more trans friendly, currently Colorado isn't so much... Anyway, I guess thats about it for me.

    Jaden

  • Hey Jaden, see you're new on the last.fm. If you want too join our group please feel welcome. (Press the join-button on the overview-page).
Yeah my own experience is that things get easier the farther you go in the transition-proces.
Had my own SRS in 2003 and for the last few years only have to do with transgender-issues as a sort of self-experienced-"expert". And as a partner of pre-op-Male-to-Female-T.
It's always easier to advice other than yourself.
Anyway listening and enjoying good music is always a good way to spent your time or forgetting your problems (or getting some comfort from listening).

I wish you all the best!

We'll know where when we get there
  • just want to say hello to everyone who's joined!

    Hey there,

Names Marcus, pre-t and all that, so lifes pretty lame in that respect, as people tend to think I'm a 15 year old boy.

I'm big on music, I play bass and guitar, the Chili's are my idols really. I look up to them more than just musically, like they've had struggles and overcome them and what not.
I have made on song, with two mates, but it won't even registar on here haha. It was a pisstake about Scientology, sounded like some Christian worship song. My mates were christians who made it with me, so they didn't mind any negative lyrics towards it.

I like all music, and think its all relevant, I like to be challenged into what my concept of music is. I didn't used to, I was kinda stuck in 90's alternative rock for ages, but I watched this documentary called Joe Strummer: The Future is Unwritten, and honestly the way Joe thought, he was so open to all music, and I'm kinda try and be that open haha. He was a fucking legend, and I actually hated punk before I watched that, cause I didn't get it. Now I do, and well The Clash are like number 5 on my list hahaha.

I'd like this group to be bigger, but obviously there will be a fair few listeners out their who live in stealth.

I'm not sure once I start medically transitioning that I will be stealth. If I'm ever cool enough to make music people will listen to, then I wouldn't be stealth. Gotta give us trans people something to brag about haha! Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah BOI!

  • Life tends to get better when you're on hormones and had your SRS.
Had my surgery at the beginning of 2003. A few months after that my life really started over.
And yeah it's pretty lame being a 15-year-old-boy (believe me...I know)

    Greetings!!!

My name is Krzysztof Slychan, I'm a 23 y.o. biologically male bisexual genderqueer / androgyne from Poland. I'm quite interested in feminism, gender theory, LGBT rights etc. as well as fashion, make-up and anything related to dark independent culture.

  • cheers Marcus and Krzysztof.

    Myself

Thanks @wendyvortex for adding my three bands and hello to the group.

I'm known as "Miss K" and tend to oscillate wildly along the trans-spectrum. I'm the creative director of a web company in so called real life but more relevantly I'm a musician perhaps best known for having been a member of very disreputable genderqueercore tranny punk band Six Inch Killaz in the late 90s.

Since then I've been with briefly popular post punk revivalists Electric Shocks where I was a boy and now I'm the "male" half of noirish rock / electro duo Deathline.

I'm based in London. You can get an idea of my musical tastes by visiting my profile. I blog at the draGnet

hmm.. hi there everyone. i joined this group.. even though i'm not trans myself. or at least i didn't do anything towards changing sex so far.

and like aibom said on our main index page, evolving out of classical gender roles seems like reasonable idea to me aswell.

    greetings from germany

  • Hey everyone :)

I'm Nathan, a pre T and pre surgery transdude. I'm 18 and from England.

I'm not good at introductions as I never know what to say but, I love music (mostly metal), I love animals, body modification...i'm pretty shy but i'm working on it :)

anyway hi! it's cool to of found this group.

  • Heya everyone! I'm 22, ftm, in the US, and I started T in October '09. <3 And for what it's worth, I'm also gay.

I'm a huge anime/manga fan, and listen to anything related to it (I like yaoi and bara as well). Of the songs I have that contain lyrics, more of them are probably in Japanese than English. XD General interest in Japanese culture and folklore as well.

This looks like a good group, so - nice to meet you all!

  • Greetings Zack, seems we have things in common dude. never been introduced myself so it's time for to do so.
I'm a 22 years old french woman, born as a guy. Started hormons in october 09 too.
To see my musical tastes, nothing better that visiting my profile, hard to describe it. In a wierd....huh sorry in a word, I'm able to listen to several different styles. Sure I like rock and things related to it, but I also like reggae, various styles of "soft music", japanese. Anyway if you want me to describe more precisely don't hesitate to come talking to me.
