I change my mind every day...
    Today Grapefruit moon

  • It's a two-way tie between "Singapore" and "I Hope That I Don't Fall in Love With You." I just love how random and bizarre the lyrics are in "Singapore," and I always thought the story Waits told in the other song was funny and beautiful at the same time.

Take It With Me (I especially adore this one), Grapefruit Moon, Flower's Grave - these are so beautiful. Singapore, Big In Japan, Underground - just so, same with Gun Street Girl and Little Drop of Poison.

'Sides, I LOVE What's He Building. Perfectly psychodelic.

  • "Nighthawk Postcards (From Easy Street)", "Bottom of the World", "Tango Till They're Sore", "I'll Be Gone", "Romeo Is Bleeding", "Don't Go Into That Barn", "The Piano Has Been Drinking", "Singapore", "God's Away On Business", "Just The Right Bullets", "Lucinda", "Tom Traubert's Blues".

These songs I chose for reasons that Waits is a unique storyteller. Inducing you into a sly song, a unraveled graveling piece, a circus bard's tale, or a bittersweet ballad.

    Favorite songs (musically), different answers..

  • Romeo is bleeding is my new favourite lyric from him

i was painted this line: "Singin' along with the radio with a bullet in his chest" to my wall the day before yesterday

  • Its between Jersey Girl and Time. I think Time is taking a bit of a lead, if only because New Jersey's involvement with the song Jersey Girl.

well - i feel Jockey Full of Bourbon like a poetry. It has something very elegant in lines like:

Bloody fingers on a purple knife
Flamingo drinking from a cocktail glass

    or

Yellow sheets on a Hong Kong bed
Stazybo horn and a Slingerland ride

also: the allegorical Piano Has Been Drinking is killing me.

    my 2 cents.

For obvious reasons (for me anyway) my favorite at the moment is San Diego Serenade.

Never saw the white line , 'til I was leaving you behind
Never knew I needed you, 'til I was caught up in a blind
Never spoke I love you, until I cursed you in vain
Never felt my hearts strenghts 'til I nearly went insane
