    A Little Rain

'she was fifteen years old and she'd never seen the ocean, she climbed into a van with a vagabond"

that line kills me every time

a bit like asking if picasso painted well...

    but...

'perhaps this yarn is the only thing that holds this man together...' (i love that!)

also pony (all of it) and green grass ('god took the stars and he tossed them, can't tell the birds from the blossom'), hold on ('with her charcoal eyes and monroe hips'), time, the day after tomorrow...

is all so perfect. saw him in edinburgh last month - my life changed i think. couldn't understand a word he sang but knew them all anyway - sad me!

oh, and cemetary polka - genius! '...and the tumor is as big as an egg / he has a mistress, she puerto-rican, and heard she has a wooden leg'

maybe also that thing about 'the kids can't get ice cream 'cause the market burned down'.

i could be here all day.

Who Are You from Bone Machine

"Are you still jumping out of windows in expensive clothes?

    Well I fell in love
With your sailor's mouth and your wounded eyes"

    :(

hmmm all of them are good actually, that's one of the reasons ı love tom waits.
But "little drop of poison" has a special place as it is the first song ı listened from him.And also "God's away on bussines" and "Blue valantine".

    of course, there's

'never trust a man in a blue trenchcoat, never drive a car when you're dead'

    too...

  • - Never Let Go
    - Hold On
    - Old Shoes (and Picture Postcards)

Those are the first three that come to mind. I'll limit myself to mentioning just three, otherwise I'll start naming them all. :)

    Blue Valentines

    Actually...most of them.

"The meanest man lingers under the shadows of piles that tell him that his fathers were not slaves...He toils in the fields with structures before him through which echoes the voice of centuries - the voice of soldiers, of scholars and of saints."
