• Review The Album

I'd like to know how you think about some albums from artists out of the soulmind movement charts, or just some other shit everyone in this group should listen, or already listens to.

I'm curious about your reviews of the 2006 album from Xzibit? Do you think he has become too commercial, or does he still make some dope tracks, like spit shine, and that track on the reflection eternal-train of thought album back in the day.

I'd really like it if you put a little bit of motivation behind your ratings. But all reviews are opinions, so let's keep it laid back with commentary.

    Get started then..!

I don't see X in the charts. But whatever, I never liked his music. Just don't like his style. But he got some dope trax!
I'm really looking forward to the new Kweli Album!
What about Nas' HipHop is dead? He got lots of kickass trax there! What do you think about it?

    Boot Camp Clik

Thanks halfstreet for this dope thread!
OK, regarding Nas' latest.... "Hip Hop Is Dead" is a good album, but definitely not among his top 3. It's certainly better than Jay's latest, though (at least in my humble opinion, that is).

Nas got some dope tracks on there - being a producer myself and following the scene a little, it's funny to see how will.i.am is finally re-gaining credibility in the hip hop scene since he produced nasty bangers for Nas, The Game and the like recently. His "A Dream" track (Freedom Fighters OST) with Common is really tight too IMHO.

I'd like to recommend you "The Last Stand" by the Boot Camp Clik. The intro track is crazy - Sean Price at his very best! - and an incredible beat! I like this album more than Sean P's latest solo album "Jesus Price Superstar", I would think that this is because of the overall beat selection and the versatility due to all the other Clik members involved. Both are good albums, but check for "The Last Stand"!

    One,
    Karsten

    Sup Karsten
Yeah, you're right, the Nas album got some dope tracks, i like the *God's Son* album more tho. Anyways, what I would like to know is what you think of the title *HipHop is dead*
Is HipHop realy dead? I don't think so. At least it is alive by now. And there are a lot of examples for that, just look at *a dream* by common or kwelis releases from his upcoming album. But that's just a part of it. What about all the 50 Cent-nonsense-pimp-hiphop-shit that even got thru to germany? What about Aggro Berlin? What about Bushido and all that stuff? Everything they do is make HipHop look like egoistic-wannabe-ganxta-music and people seem to like it!? If you look from that point, Nas' title doesn't sound that wrong, right!?
Well, about the Boot Camp Clik. Imma definetly get to listen to some of those cuz the last time you recommended something, like Brother Ali, I liked it very much!
    Peace out yo!

  • got's to reply on your opinion...I totally agree that hiphop isn't dead..there are just too many "talents' right now that get the attention, while real good bands or rappers don't even get noticed..

    for example:
this year, sean price released a new album
in 2006, akir released his debut album
I like the eyedea and abilities album...that goes a little bit longer back in time, to 2004..
in 2003, jedi mind tricks released violent by design..
in the golden era of hiphop, there weren't 20 albums a year you could call a classic...and as a classic is made, it's hard to come up with something better.

but you're right...people make too much crap these days, just for the cash...

i dunno when but jedi mind released a new album *servants in hell, kings in heaven* or some like this. i think its much better then violent by design. although its very aggressive hiphop, which is not realy my taste, it's got some goodies. i think you can compare him to pal one...

  • servants is good as well..recently got the kenn starr album..gotta say, I give it a (for me) rare score of 9 out of 10. ill beats, rhyming and flow..listened the album for a couple of times now, "if" ft. kweli & asheru is amazing as an ending. hope you'll also like this one
