Favorite Non Post Rock Artists

  • Favorite Non Post Rock Artists

So, it may be hard to believe, but I actually don't just listen to exclusively post-rock, and way back in the day I used to know just as much about non post rock.

Recently someone asked me who the 5 most important artists to me were since 2000, and I came up with the following:

    1) Oceansize (UK)
    2) Clann Zu (Australia)
    3) The Grand Silent System (Australia)
    4) Mew (Denmark)
    5) Dredg (USA)

Each of which have crafted an album which is about as near perfection as you get this day and age. Had Codeseven stuck together I probably would have included them in the list later down the road, and a 6th member would have to be the magnificent Cave-In.

2006 has kind of sucked for music all around (at least in my eyes), which has made me a sad panda indeed :(

  • i have to check Mew finally. even if prhizzm told me i look like one of the member (i think Jonas) :)

    The Grand Silent System (Australia)
    Slint (USA)
    Colditz Glider (Australia)
    Grey Daturas (Australia)
    Don Caballero (USA)

I would have to go with

    Motorpsycho (Norway) (well, also pre-Y2K)
The Soundtrack of our Lives (Sweden)
    The Mars Volta (USA)
    Broadcast (UK)
    Kyuss (USA)

and yeah, 2006 has been a bit sucky so far imho too. Haven't heard a new (non post-rock) album that really rocked my socks off yet... recommendations welcome of course :-)

It's still changing, but for the moment...

Isis, Triosk, Godflesh, Tool, A Perfect Circle, Mastodon, Gojira, Rosetta.
I've got also a lot of bands which I'm not listening now, but I still love their music - as Anathema, My Dying Bride, Agalloch etc.
