Oktober 2008 -
VickyBN1 Hi Guys, appreciate you're enthusiasm and expertise:) Suggestions always welcome here as there'll always be a piece of music that's new to someone! Will try to react promptly -but as you know life sometimes gets in the way :D
Oktober 2008 -

musinum Vicky, ou've been looking at the same tango artists as I have (not an area of expertise for me, just navigating tags)... I've been in awe of the mix you're creating... I thought about Bizet and especially Offenbach, evn tho they were much earlier... certainly they would have been listened to, as would Rachmaninoff (sp.?), Bela Bartok was also on my radar, but I didn't know how far you wanted to go there... Brian Setzer and Squirrel Nut Zippers certainly... There's a jump blues outfit called Five Guys Named Moe but I don't know if they're here... I'm not doing the links cuz I've got group duties of my own way backed up and so I'm just dashing thru... I think this is a terrific lineup, and I hope there'll be a tag radio eventually, here and in the rest of the Hendrix Galaxy... I know how much work those are, believe me...
Oktober 2008 -

SirAlecHendrix just some quick thoughts without the intention to control vicky's decisions :) -- regarding late romanticist / early modernist composers of the train's heyday, you might consider if Gabriel Fauré fits well, and maybe even Béla Bartók who relied on folk music of hungary/romania and, say the northern balkan, same with Zoltán Kodály. Olivier Messiaen represents a post-modern era outside the western tradition. Charles Ives finds a posthume recognition in this train. Stravinsky on a train ? inspires me for a title of my next track ... maybe the Orient Express is in some way a parisian cafe or viennese kaffeehaus on a ride ? if so, there are also Smetana, Martinu etc, but i feel Johann Strauss II, Richard Strauss, Georges Bizet, Jacques Offenbach (vintage track:
Barcarolle) are realistic regarding time, audience and route.
Oktober 2008 -

SirAlecHendrix playing of that time ? Squirrel Nut Zippers, The Brian Setzer Orchestra, Lavay Smith & Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers, Indigo Swing, The New Morty Show, The Puppini Sisters, Bernadette Seacrest (and Her Yes Men)
Oktober 2008 -

SirAlecHendrix Villa-Lobos from his Bachianas Brasileiras had another small train riding through Brazil :
IV. Toccata - O Trezinho do Caipira
Oktober 2008 -
VickyBN1 Either you've done this before or you've been peeking in my library :D If you're on a roll and got a few ideas for dance, world, opera, or quirky, from the era, or todays musicians playing 'of that time' , that would be great :)
Oktober 2008 -

musinum Heitor Villa-Lobos would be right at home. I think...you know he started as a cocktail pianist... oh, and Jelly Roll Morton... and you've probably already considered Edvard Grieg and Jean Sibelius
Oktober 2008 -

musinum Oktober 2008 -

musinum Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel, Sergei Prokoffiev, Charles Ives, Olivier Messiaen....?
Oktober 2008 -

musinum I think you cherry-picked the best ones from that lot! (It can be fun later on rounding out the byways once you've got the tone established. as I know from my three sister SlowSound groups).
Oktober 2008 -
VickyBN1 Hi musinum, many thanks for suggesting such quality artists, some really fit in well and have been connected , the others feel a liitle too "rock n' roll " for now but may be included as we go along - who knows in time we may end up taking a detour and end up somewhere quite unexpected :)
Oktober 2008 -

SirAlecHendrix Vicky is our Chef de Musique du Train, she will decide upon your honorable requests, Mr. Musinum.
Oktober 2008 -

musinum and I meant LaVern Baker, but she's a little anachrnonistic maybe.... how about Alberta Hunter?
