    The Grab-Bag

the purpose of this thread is to provide a place to post all the other mixes you make.

if there is a concept invovled, go in to detail about it, give a synopsis of why you made the mix in the first place.

and then whoever wants to can download it and give thier opinions.

this is less of a "trading" and more of a "sharing", something to occupy time after you've made your monthly exchange.

    ejoy. =)

    [2007] quilted

    this is another word-linking mix.

very eclectic, with artists such as maria taylor, agalloch and autechre, but still retaining a good flow.

    fifteen tracks.

    an hour and fifteen minutes.

a somber sort of mix, meant for reflection mostly.

    EDIT: correct link now.

nice, I was thinking about making a mixtape with music from different regions of Brazil, what you guys think? Its not like a music advice mixtape...but its curious, I also wonder how styles from other countries are, besides the widely-known ones.

I'd love to hear it - I'm rather ignorant in regards to music from outside of the States and Canada.

I just made a mix yesterday that's rather different than most of my mixes - it's for the most part amazingly low-key. Lots of instrumentals and even a bit of country twang. Depending on whether I want to tackle the April theme or not as well as whom I'm partnered with and what tastes they have, I might end up sending it as my April mixtape - otherwise, I might end up posting it here.

  • This is a cool idea! I think I'll be posting a mix, soon!

  • Whenever I have about 75 mins of music I like to add to my mp3 player's constant playlist, I burn that music on CD. It's not a mix per se as I don't care much about the "flow" but what the heck.

Here's one from last year. If you want me to, I can post some more:

    Playlist Additions Vol 539

System Of A Down - Lonely day

  • Ladies and gentleman, let me tell you a sad story. A few friends and I planned a trip to the zoo. I, being fond of mix cds as I am, decided to construct a happy-go-lucky-old-fashioned-fun-mix. Every song title had to deal with animals, or to some extent, nature. However, this trip was all for fucking naught. My friends girlfriend accompanied us, and somehow the two of them managed to turn a joyous trip to the frontier of our youth into a hideous, foul, vocalized torrent of hate and mysery. With everyone in a bad mood, she uttered "Kelson makes a mix for everything so they're meaningless." To which my mix triumphantly replied "It began in afrika-ka-ka-ka-ka"

Hopefully someone can salvage some fun from this godless , 6 akward, uncomfortable hours to and from, trip.

So, the lesson is, don't get in a fight unless your within 10 miles of your house. And, to a greater extent, don't date a total bitch/douche.

The Chemical Brothers- It began in afrika
    NOFX- Eat the meek
    Immortal Technique- Dominant species
    Dr. Doom- Wild kingdom
    Infected Mushroom- Converting Vegetarians
    anti-pop consortium- Cats locked out
    Vitalic- Poney part 1
    Blur- Beetlebum
    Mr. Oizo- Analog wormz sequel
Del Tha Funky Homosapien- Missing link
    TOONAMI(joe boyd vigil)-Walking stick
Modest Mouse- parasites will be excited when you're dead
Jedi Mind Tricks (ft. Kool G Rap)- Animal Rap
    Boards of Canada-Peacock tail
    Viktor Vaughn- A dead mouse
    Wu-Tang Clan- Triumph
The Misfits- Return of the fly
    Death In Vegas- Diving horses
The Thermals- St. Rosa and the swallows
    Dead Kennedys- The prey

Triumph 10000% counts on account of the KILLER BEES infused music video.

  • During the days of free exchanging of music via Napster (circa 2000), I downloaded over 300 Led Zeppelin bootlegs. I recently sorted through this mess of bootlegs, compiled the highest-quality ones, and have made them available to you all through sendspace. Now remember that even the highest quality bootlegs (especially from the 1960s, '70s, and '80s) don't compare to CD quality, but having listened to many bootlegs, I can tell you that these are pretty darn good quality (in all except a couple of cases in which the medley of songs Led Zeppelin chose to play was too notable to exclude). Anyway, you can download the mix here.

A few other things to note: the mix is nearly four hours long (although that will not sway diehard Zep fans) and 218.4 megabytes large. I felt too lazy to order it; also, I give no guarantee that the concert given in the file information for each song is correct (I wasn't alive back then, after all). Finally, I couldn't find many high-quality acoustic numbers, so this is essentially an all-plugged collection. If you already have BBC Sessions, The Song Remains the Same, and How The West Was Won, but want more, this is perfect. If you don't want to pay for a live Led Zeppelin album, this is a great alternative. Hope you enjoy!

  • The Stephin Merritt Mix

While browsing some of the older forum discussions I found that at one point many group members seemed interested in a Magnetic Fields Mix. I've no idea if anyone eventually made one or not, but I decided to share mine (made for myself) over here. Since it has rather a lot of music by one artist , I'll delete the download links in a bit. After all we don't want our lovely group to come under attack!

So, enjoy, and have a great Xmas or whatever else you celebrate.
