    Ooh... i like those, iamcamp!

What we're doing here is making up theme's for upcoming mixtapes. They're not compulsory, but just as a guide if you don't have any idea where to start.

i think differant cycles would make a cool concept as well.

  • I thought that nature would be a good one. And since I'm a left-brained person, numbers would be intriguing as well.

  • Can't a mix CD be just that - a simple collection of songs, without metaphysical or philosophical connections between them?

But, if I wanted to be philosophical...
    - The myth of an idealistic past
    - loss and confusion
    - geography (maybe songs that evoke a certain geographic region to the creator..?)

I like a lot of what I've seen here...

Sure... in fact, the basic idea behind this group is for anyone to do whatever they want to do. If you just want to put your favourite songs on it - that's just as great!

But after three rounds of swapping mixtapes, perhaps you're running out of favourite songs. And then, you might want to build your mixtape around some idea, and you don't know which one. I'm just handing you a tool.

I suppose some people here (at least me) think of their mixtapes as a story, with a beginning and an end. Every song on it has a purpose, and is carefully weighed before included. Lyrics are being analysed, to see if they serve the story. Sometimes, the end of one song doesn't mesh right with the start of the next, and then it's dropped. You see, some people (yes, i mean myself) are that obsessed with music. I really should get some friends... :)

uhmmm... that's very nice of you... but i don't think you get the idea.

Have a read at this groups front page. I'm about to send you the name of another team member, for whom you make a personal mixtape. That person will do the same for you.

I don't mind you sharing your mix with us, but if everyone would be posting their mixes here, it'd become a bloody mess! Goodness no!

oh man, you beat me to it!
I watched Fight Club last night (yes, for the first time) and I sat down to make a mix about it, well, parts of it.

mix with no words or very few words
    superhero

    gimme gimme.
  • -Past and Present
    -Deja Vu
-a mix concerning what are the boundaries of music, what is music and what is simply noise, and where the two meet. No two-word summary of that theme...

I like the numbers and no words ideas as well.

fight club remains one of my favorites. the mix could be either based on a movie or completely new, but in the format of a movie.

a mix with no words would be a piece of cake, and a tasty one at that.

and the noise v music idea...that's a lot of open ground to work with.

or a "scene" or "picture" or a typical setting. for instances boards of canada: a walk in the country. or what you said. ;)

another idea: create a coherant sentence with the song titles.

    love both of these...

    original version vs. cover version

    gimme gimme.

    I like.

Same with the genre-specific idea. I have a mix in the works that's about 2/3 post-rock.

    What about
    - Mix where every song is at a similar tempo
    - Mix where the last word of a song is the same as the first word of the subsequent song (i.e. I Am A Scientist --> Scientist Studies
    - Geographically-specific mix (i.e. all the bands on it from Boston or from Montreal)
    - A mix composed exclusively of songs you've recieved through other mix CDs

I think some of those are going out there though...
