    Good books to recommend?

I totally dig the idea of steampunk but in fact I still haven't read any books. I'd like to, but somehow dunno where to start ;) I'm especially interested in ones taking place in Victorian England. And/Or with airships:D

    books:

The Difference Engine by William Gibson & Bruce Sterling
The Age of Unreason by J. Gregory Keyes
Perdido Street Station by China Miéville
His Dark Materials Trilogy from Philip Pullman
Morlock Night by K. W. Jeter
The Diamond Age by Neal Stephenson
    Clockwork Heart by Dru Pagliassotti
    Whitechapel Gods - S.M. Peters
Gordon Dahlquist - Glass Books of the Dream Eaters
    World Shaker - Richard Harland
The Affinity Bridge - George Mann
    Thunderer - Felix Gilman
    Boneshaker - Cherie Priest

    comics:
    Sebastian O
    The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
    Steampunk
    Ignition City (Dieselpunk)
    Neverwhere

  • I'm currently reading Heart of Veridon by Tim Akers, I'd maybe go for that one. It's very easy to read, but there is a fair bit of violence so be aware of that.

  • Boneshaker-Cherie Priest
    Soulless and Changeless- Gail Carriger

The Strange Affair of Spring-Heeled Jack - Mark Hodder
The Anubis Gates by Tim Powers

  • I'd recommend Soulless, Changeless and Blameless by Gail Carriger too. Love her :)
Also most things by Neal Stephenson, and the Court of the Air series by Stephen Hunt.

I would recommend Mortal Engines Quartet also known as Hungry City Chronicles by Philip Reeve...
These four books are more like post-apocalyptic, but there's all elements needed for steampunk setting. And of course; airships :)

    PS.
There is some rumors about movies based on Mortal Engines currently in production by Peter Jackson...

Absolutely anything by China Mieville. The man is a genius. Especially Perdido Street Station and The Scar. His works are a combination of steampunk and other categories - he classifies his works as "new weird" - but 100% steampunk or not, you're missing out on something incredible if you've never read his books.

  • "The Edge Chronicles" by Paul Steward and Chris Riddell

  • Michael Moorcock's A Nomad Of The Time Streams

I haven't read any Steampunk literature personally. But I came across 'Phoenix Rising: A Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences Novel' by Pip Ballantine & Tee Morris. I'm not entirely sure what it's like, but it's on my 'to read' list.

"The spark. I wanted to give you... what you deserve. And I got it. They put the spark in me and now all it does is burn."
  • The Leviathan series by Scott westerfeild. They're really easy to read, but well worth it.
