When did you hear about steampunk?

  • When did you hear about steampunk?

I heard about steampunk for the first time when a few people introduced me to Dr. Steel in 07.

    Your turn.

  • Long before I heard about steampunk I was already listening to Abney Park. Only a few years later I was introdused to that term and found out about other bands.

I was introduced into steampunk in early 08 after I heard about the videogame ''Damnation'' which is based on steampunk technology and stuff.

Came across steampunk long before I knew what it was, around 1998 with Michael Moorcocks 'The War Lord of the Air', and then of course the rest of the Nomad of Time trilogy, and again only recently realised there was music in the style, even though I had been listening to Rasputina for a while now. Facinating stuff.

Playing the RPG FlyFF. Yeah I know, I suck. But the game's clearly got some steampunk elements in it.

  • Arcanum. Of course, when I first played that game I didn't know the term yet.

I watched several Animes with Steampunk elements (Trigun, Vampire Hunter D,...) some years ago. I wasn't very interestet in it that time, but the topic came up last month again and after starting Last Exile and discovering Vernian Process I got more and more into it

  • I got into Steampunk when I was about 12, so about 20 years ago I guess. I think my first major Steampunk related fascination was The Adventure's of Brisco County Jr.

A long time ago, when I was rather young and foolish, and enjoyed pointless personality quizzes, I took a quiz called "What kind of goth are you?" or something of that sort. It told me I was steampunk. This sent me on a wild search for what steampunk actually was. I came to the conclusion that the author of that quiz was some what foolish, considering steampunk is more literature than goth subgenre. However, I must thank the silly quiz to some extent, I've fallen in love with the genre of literature, the style, the music influenced by steampunk, and the over all fabulosity found in brass goggles, cogs and gears.
I believe the first steampunk book I read was the Time Machine, though I had no idea that the genre was steampunk at the time I read it.

    Partially insane, perhaps.
  • finding more stiles of music

  • I have read some info about anime. Steampunk was mentioned as one of genres. Then I started to listen to Abney Park. After several tracks they become one of my favorite bands :)

I was originally introduced to Steampunk with the RPG known as Dark Cloud 2 i was fascinated with it. With my limited resources at the time i seen Wild Wild West movie, but what got me into this was about a week before today when some one referred to my music project "dENOTING Progression" as Steampunk. Truely this is what got me looking into it more, and i decided to look it all up, I got into Abbey Park, Clockwork Dolls, I have yet to look up more. BTW i thought Rasputia was just goth till about an hour ago. I have recently started a new project "Out the Womb of Lilith" it is more Steampunk i think. I may play at the Steampunk World's Fair this upcoming year. once i learn how to join.

I would like to learn much more.

Actually... My ex-boyfriend was talking about it. He played Warmachine. Me too, but actually I wasn't really interested. But Steampunk became a passion, nobody could resist my enthousiasm :)

  • I heard when my friend told me about Abney Park.

"What the Dickens?" Jules Verne deserves his own espression.

I've known what Steampunk is since I was a kid. But I've never been into it. It all changed recently.
It all started in the moment, when my brother askem me if i want to play a Polish RPG game called "Wolsung". I said "yes". That's how I fell in love with Steampunk. I started to read a lot of books like "The Difference Engine", I started to listen The Clockwork Dolls, Vermillion Lies etc. Now, i can't imagine living without this great thing called Steampunk :)
