Sport-Related Music

  • Sport-Related Music

On the SpoFi wiki (yeah, yeah, stfu, terrapin) we have articles for Sport-Related Books and Sport-Related Movies, but we don't have a Sports-Related Music article/thread as of yet.

Any songs come to mind that have sports-related content or references? The first song that popped into my head was "Glory Days" by Bruce Springsteen. Not sure why. You?

I'll translate the discussion here to the wiki at some point if that's cool too.

  • "Three Lions" by Skinner and Baddiel.

The noise you hear is anyone who has been to an England game in the last twelve years groaning.

Definate sports-related content would be: Paradise by the Dashboard Light by Meatloaf. It features baseball commentary by Phil Rizzuto. Great song too, by the way.

Could we add music that is used to "pump" up the crowd in arena's? How about baseball lineup music when the hitters come to the plate?

Welcome to the Jungle by Guns n' Roses is a good one.

  • You'll Never Walk Alone

Fearless by Pink Floyd ends with sounds from a Liverpool football match.

  • Jose+10

The ubiquitous Nike commercial from the 2006 World's Cup includes the infectious song by Jim Noir called "Eanie Meany" with the lines "If you don't give my football back, I'm gonna get my dad on you..."

I don't know Bo. I think arena/stadium music should be a different category.

    Anyway, here's a few more sports-related songs.

Basketball Jones – Cheech & Chong
The Ball Game – Sister Wynona Carr
There Used to Be a Ballpark – Frank Sinatra
    Talkin' Baseball – Terry Cashman
Joltin' Joe Dimaggio – Les Brown Orchestra
Did You See Jackie Robinson Hit That Ball? – Buddy Johnson
I-76 – G. Love & Special Sauce (There are numerous mentions of the 76ers)

That's all I got for now.

  • Joltin' Joe

goddam's comment reminded me of "Mrs. Robinson" with the line "where have you gone Joe Dimaggio."
