    ScrobblePod alternatives

As you probably know, development on ScrobblePod has ended. The code is open source (http://code.google.com/p/scrobblepod/), so someone could theoretically continue on with it, but that isn't looking likely.

ScrobblePod still mostly works for me, but it's only a matter of time before a new version of iTunes breaks it. So, in the interest of the future, my question is: what are the best ScrobblePod alternatives out there?

The two things about ScrobblePod that made it great for me were: (1) small memory footprint and (2) delayed scrobbling, to allow for iPod/iPhone listening. (Although, I hear that this delay is no longer necessary to scrobble from iPods; does anyone know for sure?)

    What else out there compares?

Code now seems to be here: https://github.com/scrobblepod/scrobblepod

Shame it's no longer being developed. Just come back to it after giving up (again) on the official client which has just stopped scrobbling any iPod tracks altogether.

    ScrobblePod 0.6.3

    Good news everyone! :)

I've taken over the development of ScrobblePod and just released a new version, which fixes a lot of memory problems, as well as includes numerous other enhancements.

You can download the new version from:

    http://mmrr.fi/scrobblepod/download/0.6.3

The new version is pretty stable by now, although if you find any bugs, please report them to scrobblepod@mmrr.fi.

    You are welcome, Daniel!

My address is anton@sotkov.com. If you'd like, you can donate to Japan instead.

As a number of ScrobblePod users are from Japan, I hope they, their families, and everyone else there is alright. I sincerely wish the Land of the Rising Sun to recover from the disasters, and to never have to suffer through this again.

  • i hope this app is still being developed/fixed!

am i the only one who has problems scrobbling repeated tracks or albums? if i listen to an album 5 times in a row on my ipod, scrobblepod will only scrobble the album one time. the same thing happens if i listen to a song 5 or 10 times in a row. just one scrobble from scrobblepod. this is infuriating and has almost made me switch back to iscrobbler, which is sad, because other than that i think i would prefer using scrobblepod.

@dustyaltena: isn't this a default behaviour of the ipod and has nothing to do with scrobblepod?
the ipod can only remember that a track has been played and when and not how often. so the only information you will get out of the ipod is, when the specific track has been played for the last time.

  • If you make a smart playlist like this:

    - Last Played is in the last 2 weeks
    - Media Kind is Music

Then tracks will only appear once, no matter how many times you play them. Their play counts will update accordingly, though.

You can make a regular playlist with the same song multiple times, but not a smart playlist. ScrobblePod probably has the same limitation. Only workaround is probably just to scrobble before listening to a song another time.

There's a new beta with multiplay support and other bug fixes. Please, let me know how it works for you.
