  christoph42, Opeth's earlier work isn't blackmetalish, it's just maybe more like classic death metal. You should really listen to those albums, there are lots of great songs like Demon of the Fall, When, To Bid You Farewell, The Night and the Silent Water, In The Mist She Was Standing, The Apostle In The Triumph...

  Yes and no. I wouldn't exactly say "formula", because Opeth, as any great band, are all about evolving and redefining their sound. But if you like Blackwater Park - which is one of their best - you'll probably also love Still Life, Deliverance, Ghost Reveries ... well, basically anything they did since Still Life. Not sure about their earlier work (Orchid, Morningrise, MAYH) - couldn't really dive into them so far because they are a bit to black metal-ish for my taste.

  It seems alot of you are big Opeth fans. The only opeth album I own is Blackwater Park and I enjoyed it for it's progressive qualities. Do they have any other albums that follow the same formula?

  Wow ... of all things, you call Watershed an easy to listen to album ... quite a bold statement. In my opinion, Damnation is the only Opeth album that's somewhat easy to listen to, while Watershed is their weirdest, most "fucked-up", least accessible release to date. Well, perhaps arguably more accessible than Orchid, Morningrise and MAYH for its much more refined sound, but still quite hard to digest if you are new to Opeth. As a starting point, I'd rather recommend Ghost Reveries, which I consider to be their most coherent and refined album.

  I got into Opeth by listening to a whole bunch of different songs (wide range) then everything just fell togheter after lol. But yah I also recommend Damnation as a good start.
