Richard Patrick, (born May 10, 1968 in Needham, Massachusetts) is an American rock musician. He is the frontman for the band Filter, a founding member of the supergroup Army of Anyone, and has...
Following his departure from Nine Inch Nails, Richard Patrick formed his own industrial rock band, Filter, with Brian Liesegang who left the band after the recording of the band's first album, 1995's Short Bus. 4 years later in 1999, Richard Patrick released Filter's second album, Title of Record with help from guitarist Geno Lenardo.
Filter's third album, The Amalgamut, was released in 2002, with Richard Patrick canceling most of the supporting tour to check in to re-hab for his alcoholism problem which had been plaguing him for years. An experience where he drunkenly fought with flight attendants on a plane after removing his clothes inspired Filter's arguably biggest single, "Take a Picture". On November 11, 2002, upon completion of the treatment, he released this statement on his website:
“ Hi this is Richard again, I'm alive and kicking! Rehab was the best thing that ever happened to me, my mind is clear, my body is fit and I feel great. Thank you for all your love and support, I definitely felt it over the last 45 days. I can't tell you how great I feel. Rehab has made me rethink everything in my life. Now that I'm not wasting time on getting fucked up, I'll be able to devote more energy toward creating my music. I'll tell you right now that I have big plans for Filter and many other new musical projects that I have going on in my life. I'm so proud of this band and what we've accomplished, even when I was fucked up, but now that I'm straight there's no telling what we can do. So I know this might sound like a cliché letter from rehab, but because I've never said it, it's not cliché to me. So thanks for being there and supporting me through this, I'll write again soon! [1] ”
After a 5-year hiatus, Richard Patrick announced that Filter would be releasing a new record in 2008, entitled Anthems for the Damned. Collaborators on the record include Josh Freese (A Perfect Circle, Nine Inch Nails), Wes Borland (Black Light Burns, Limp Bizkit), and John 5 (Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie). The album was released on 13 May 2008.Official site.
