    ROCK REMIXES

Hi!! I'm really digging Rock band remixes!! DFA 1979 (they do remixes as Mstrkrft), Bloc Party (Silent Alarm remix album), so many more to name...i'm glad rock bands finally realised they can reach a wider audience by having there great songs remixed to be even better!!!

Don't sweat the petty stuff, pet the sweaty stuff!!!!!!!!

i love genre crossing remixes in general. turning hiphop and rock into electronic is awesome when done correctly. the kings of convenience versus album is a great example of folk mixes. yum.

  • i think my fav remixes are made by Stuart Price aka Jacques Lu Cont aka Les Rythmes Digitales aka Paper Faces. I love what he's done to Gwen Stefani's What You Waiting For and Madonna's Hollywood - they sound more light. Contrary his mix of Madonna's Let It Will Be is more dark. My other favourite is Fischerspooner's remix of Come Into My World - totally different song. And Plaid remix of All Is Full Of Love by Bjork - extremely beautiful.

ahh! i love the plaid mix of all is full of love! jacques lu cont does good remixes, but as for Hollywood, the Deepsky and Oakenfold remixes took the win for me (all of the official mixes are amazing, though).

i need to check out the fischerspooner mix of come into my world!

hmm, i really like remixes done by Mindless Self Indulgence, for example they did a kickass remix of Korn's "here to stay" and Serart's "facing the plastic".
DJ Z-Trip is a great remixer, and as it goes for pop, i like remixes of Chris Cox, MJ Cole and Armand Van Helden. talking 'bout more "dark" stuff, artist like Combichrist, KMFDM and VNV Nation make great remixes. oh, and some of Freelance Hellraiser's remixes are pricless, but not all, though.

ahh! so many of them! for quite a long time i was overwhelmed by trentemoeller's take on 'what else is there'(royksopp) and tiefschwarz' version of 'listen to the hiss'(dj hell) - both growing with tension all the way to the explosive grand finale i crave so much!

but in the end it was james holden's mix of 'the sky was pink'(nathan fake) that became my fav remix of 2005 - the mere thought of it evokes all the thrills and chills available for the track is both powerful and beautiful
few days ago i discovered holden's rework of 'the darkest star' (depeche mode) and i can feel it growing to be my oh-so-fresh powerplay:)

but all in all it's a tough decision to make when the likes of trentemoeller, tiefschwarz or holden plus rex the dog (that 'girls' remix!!!), tomas andersson, dominik eulberg, tiga and many more are continuously launching their awesome mixes

one more thing - a recommendation:
eyerer & chopstick 'electric (williams mix)'
my chosen one for the last couple of days and simultaneously- another reason why i'll never drop one title when asked for the best mix ever:D

I always loved the Micronauts' remix of some Madonna song or another. ("Hollywood"? She only tries to ruin it.)

    Mariah Carey - [track]Dreamlover (Def Club Mix)[/track]
Probably the greatest House Remix of a Pop Record the world has ever seen. It's that awesome. David Morales' crowning achievement. Carey sounds awesome, amazing keyboard hook. Sends a dancefloor crazy - even now after all these years! A true anthem.

Janet Jackson - [track]That's The Way Love Goes (CJ FXTC Club Mix)[/track]
Rivaled the original LP version for popularity when it first dropped - got tons or airplay in the states and rightly so. If you're looking for Deep Garage House of the 90s, you won't get much better than this. Amazing.

Jamiroquai - [track]Space Cowbody (David Morales Club Mix)[/track]
I list this one becauase Morales transformed the song. The LP version is nothing more than a jammin' session - it's cool, but this Morales mix put the song onto a whole different level.

Debroah Gibson - [track]One Step Ahead (Masters At Work Dub)[/track]
Talk about obscure! This little gem is one of House music's best kept secrets. You probably haven't heard it, but if you can track it down however you can. It's very rare - it'll be a mission but so worth it! The Gibson vocals are baisically totally removed (thank god!) and what's left is a stunning Deep House groove that you won't be able to get out of your head. Amazing classic from MAW that only a handful of people even know about!

Michelle Branch - [track]Breathe (The Passengerz Tuff Club)[/track]
Really nice Progressive House tune that makes awesome use of Branch's vocals. Definatley my favourite house remix of recent years - relatively underground which makes it even better in my book! :-D

There are loads and loads more but these are the ones I immediatley think of...

  • Daft Punk - Technologic (vitalic mix)

    "I'm no fucking buddhist
    But this is enlightenment"
  • Brother Brown- Under the Water [Deep Dish Underpressure Remix]

oh where to start? well, I saw Röyksopp mentioned up there somewhere (that Trentemøller remix of What Else Is There?)

Cry Baby (Röyksopp's Målselves Memorabilia mix)
    - It's the sound of Arctic Elves running barefeet through the snow-covered moss in the fur forest chanting...

SING A SONG (Röyksopp i kramsnø remix)
    - Eri-san goes to Hokkaido to stare at the northern lights and makes a telepathic connection with Röyksopp who are also out staring at the northern lights in the Arctic night.

Julian Jabre - Swimming Places (Steve Angello remix)

Samus spins multiple times quickly on one foot, twirling her plasma whip
around her like a ribbon dancer and says, ”You’re mine.”

Linkin Park's remix LP, Reanimation... A bunch of artists remix Linkin Park, and they come out as a sort of dark, glitchy, experimental rap metal... It's amazing, and probably their best album. Very original, probably one of the best albums ever IMO. Unfortunately, it wasn't well-received because of the audience it was directed at...

  • chromeo - you're so gangsta (playgroup remix)
