Don't you hate it when...

  • Don't you hate it when...

Someone says they like Pink Floyd, and you ask what their favorite song is and they say, "oh, uh, dark side of the moon."

  • Yeah, favorite song-Another Brick in The Wall II. Then I say-I prefer first part. Then they say-That exists?

Oh, I have a friend who told me yesterday that she loved the song "The Wall". I didn't even know that there was a song called like that...

(But I have to admit that before becoming a fan, I used to think that Pink Floyd was a heavy metal band... don't ask me why)

Yeah, the thing with Another Brick In The Wall Pt. 2 is very common...
As i noticed, if people (not Floyd fans) can associate Floyd with anything, it's Another Brick In The Wall Pt. 2 or Money, and that's it. Maybe sometimes the prism. If it's more, like High Hopes, Wish You Were Here or Comfortably Numb it's a big surprise to me...

    God is good!
  • This topic is lovely. :D Okay, my first steps to become a fan was Another brick in the wall pt. 2 and DSOTM album, it's a fact.
When I listen to Pink Floyd, my mother always asks this question:
"Which singer is it? That one with a very bad voice and a strange long face (= Roger) or that fat and bald man with good voice but terrible cold blue eyes (= David)?"
    :D

That is too funny! Although I disagree with her description of Roger lol.

Haha, I laughed at "a strange long face"... And her description of David reminded me of a bootleg that is called Fat Old Gilmour LOL

Fat Old Gilmour... :'DD I've never heard about this bootleg, but very... promising. :D

The other thing what I hate is the "color problem", lot of people mix up Pink Floyd with Deep Purple, because pink and purple are similar colors. Shame! :(

WTF. When I listen to Floyd, my brother (who has seen some concerts with me) says: "The singer. Is this that man with dirty feet from Live at Pompeii? You know, I mean that fat one on P.U.L.S.E."

Yeah, it's sad how Barrett is unknown basically. :/ I told my mother 1000 times that Syd was the first singer and leader of the band but she still can't believe that The Gnome (for example) is a Pink Floyd song.

David changed a lot during the decades, hard to identify him if you're not a fan. :) But now, he's a lovely old man, but of course with less hair. :D

Oh and what's about Roger? Does he really look like Richard Gere? Few days ago I saw the actor on TV just for 1-2 sec and I screamed "Oh, that's Roger Waters, turn on the TV!"

Yeah, that thing with Richard Gere is very usual... I was watching tho The Wall today, and my mother asked me if that man (refering to Bob Geldof) was Roger Waters. Then she asked how Roger looked like, and I told her that now he looked like Richard Gere... She screamed "Oh, he's very cute then! Do you have a picture of him?" :]
Well, in my opinion, Roger looked very, very well in his youth, and now he looks good. David looked very well in his youth, and now... well, he looks a bit like a grandpa ;)

Yeah, Dave is like good, old grandpa these days. :D

As for Roger, I do sometimes think he's a bit like Richard Gere. But my mother, who is a fan of Gere, says that Roger is much uglier. I don't agree, Rog used to be quite handsome.

It's very strange if someone is able to say "My favourite song is Another Brick in the Wall part II". Everybady use to say just "The Wall".

I remember the last year, when Rick Wrigth died, the only tv that told the new in Spain says "author of great songs like Dark Side of the Moon".

At the same time Pink Floyd is a million seller band, the are very unknowing between the masses, at least in Spain. No one has listening any song appart from "The Wall", and it's very strange to find someone who knows who is Roger Waters or David Gilmour. And nobody, not even the media, noticed that some days ago The Wall (as an album) was released 30 years ago.
