    Calculations???

    Hi guys,

I was wondering what formula the OMI calculator uses in order to calculate your OMI score? It takes top artists and compares tags, but how many top artists does it use?

By the way, when I calculate my score I see that the tag "Electronic" is quite big. However, I think the musical genre "electronic" is too broad to be put in one tag (for example: compare Royksopp with Aphex Twin), and therefore should be split up in order to get a more representative view. It is as stupid as making a "guitar" tag for all music with a guitar playing in it. People listening to electronic music will get a lower OMI score than they actually should have imo.

    Bye

  • This issue has been raised many times before and you can only blame yourself and your fellow electronica fans that you don't tag your artists properly with the correct subgenre.

I myself try to always make sure I tag everything correct if I know how to even remotely describe the subgenre. While a lot of my electronica is far down in my lists I am still a huge electronica listener and I tag my goa trance, psytrance, normal trance and chill out properly. I have yet to find a good tag for Ratatatat and I notice that a lot of the video game OSTs I got are tagged as video game music, not the proper electronica genre that many of them belong to...
