    Pink's IN

Not heard of Ariel Pink and Internet reviews are less than estatic but since when has that been a criteria for anything. On the basis of (a) his link to the great Animal Collective and (b) this being the first member post to New Weird America - HE'S IN
    Thanx thenouns.

  • I dunno I'm not terribly familiar with them, but Grandaddy seems like it's pushing it, as far as new-folk. Same with Fiery Furnaces.

    Another suggestion-- Jack Rose.

There are I confess some crowd pleasers in the connections list e.g. Lambchop, Calexico, Yo Lo Tengo, Fiery Furnaces. These are perhaps more accurately kindred spirits(and personal favourites) rather than bona fide New Weird America (NWA). Similarly if I include Grandaddy there should also be Flaming Lips & Mercury Rev but I'll draw the line now and leave space for the real unknowns - the strangers who are friends I've yet to meet.
So on these grounds (and not because of who they might have slept with!) I've added Matt Valentine, White Magic & Jack Rose.
Not sure Regina Spektor is true NWA - quirky and interesting for sure but isn't she bedfellows with the underwhelming Strokes?
Keep the suggestions coming on who to add and who to kick

Yeah man. Check him and Glenn Jones out in my living room.

They were touring the UK, but we weren't playing where we live. So we phoned them up and asked them to play for us and stay at our house. Worked out rather well.

  • Oh wow that's awesome. Do you have any more pictures? I tried just taking off the GlennJack.jpg but it gave me some no-album-found crap.

Nah I think that's the only picture I took. Sorry.

I have a signed poster I could scan in if you wanted, but that's about all I've got.

My brother's all 'anti fame' and stuff, and just wanted to act all normal and apathetic around them.

    What a hipster

  • I'm amazed how Motorcycle-dude Jack Rose looks.

I was mostly just amazed by how big his head is.

    It really is massive.

    perhaps The Microphones.

    also Karl Blau

  • Further weirdness

Err... Old Time Relijun should be spelled with a J, not a G. I'm not being a grammarian or anything, but all the connections are linked to Old Time Relijun except 6 lost souls who spelled it with a G.

Also, for wonderful high weirdness from the backwoods, check out two acts on Plastic Duck recordings: Charlie McAlister from South Carolina and Wood Paneling from Mason County, WA. Keep you off of moonshine for a long time (and you can download the entire albums for free!)

    DJ Whistle Punk
out in Paris where there's just not enough weird going on

I would like to see King Creosote and his brother The Lone Pigeon added! How about Adrian crowly. Then there's Entrance, who, by the way has slept on my sitting room floor several times!! Does Apothercary Hymns fit???

    Missing connections

King Creosote and Entrance are already in the connections list (it's quite long now so you may have missed them).
I'm not too familiar with Apothercary Hymns - what do other guys think on this one.
Are there any rising Weird stars that need to be added?

  • Steve Burns?

sometimes, things happen just like THAT!

    Hah, Blues Clues.

  • now we found our second clue!

    Have you heard his music?
I admit his album Songs For Dustmites sounds a little too much like Yoshimi/Soft Bulletin sessions (but since the Lips produced it that's almost understandable) but his music is pretty cool and i think he is at least as talneted as half the people in the the connections here.

But I guess his stuff is more like an indie arm of mainstream alt rock.
Are NWA artists not allowed to know about drum kits?
