In the last minutes of "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" by Pink Floyd, there's a saxophone solo by Dick Parry which I like very much and i'm wondering if there's a jazz genre which has this sound? I'm guessing it some type of cool jazz from the '70/'80s, but I don't know, my knowledge on jazz genres is limited.

you might also like van morrison's moondance for a similiar sound. Check out frank zappa's stuff.

    Can you find the signature?

    Check this one...

Cleaners From Venus - Living With Victoria Grey (1986)

    AMG:
"The melodies are infectious, the guitars ringing, the lyrics witty. One of the few best-of's from a hitless '80s indie band that actually sounds like a collection of worthy hit singles."

    I've got a feeling you'll like it. :)

  • I love Complete Discography by Minor Threat and I'd like to get into 80's hardcore. Any suggestions?

Also, I heard "Destroy The Heart" by the House of Love on an Uncut magazine mix CD. What bands sound similar to that?

    Great group you've got here.

    I'll take House of Love.

If you're into "Destroy the Heart" you'll love their self-titled debut (recorded the same year, 1988)...

The genre is indie pop (slightly twee and slightly shoegaze in places). They were one of the big guns who kick-started Madchester, and I'm also recommending...

    Chapterhouse - Blood Music (1993)

    Some lists you may like...

    "100 Great Dreampop Albums"

    "101 Great Indie Pop Albums"

    "110 Great Madchester Albums"

Secret Snacker & Accomplished Pen Thief At:
  • going through another one of my music droughts. i want some music i can dance to. something along the lines of new young pony club or css please. dancepunk dance music, as opposed to...all the other kinds, really. thanks!

Anything from this list would be spot on...

    "100 Great Electro Albums"

A few albums I'd single out...

Ascii Disko - Ascii Disko (2003)

Glamour To Kill - Musik Pour the Ratas (2004)

    Codec & Flexor - Tubed (2002)

Secret Snacker & Accomplished Pen Thief At:
  • Bubblegum Pop

    whats this all about then?
is this a real genre? i think most of the time ive seen it used it has been derogatory.
do i like it? whats a good example?

It's basically novelty songs (the wiki description waffles to say the least).

    These are great...

Shampoo - We Are Shampoo (1994)

(not the original UK cover there)

Shonen Knife - Rock Animals (1993)

I'd chew gum to these all day long. In fact, I think I have done at some point. :)

Secret Snacker & Accomplished Pen Thief At:
  • WOW, i have a Shonen Knife cd [Let's Knife]. i'ma check it out soon.
i thought it was [an it prob still is] a 60s thing mainly.

/edit YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) That's the one (supergirl and all that).

I named one of my albums after a track on "Let's Knife".

    Flying Jelly Attack. :)

    A 1993 classic, definitely.

  • thanks for the recs cylob. admittedly the 100 greatest electro albums list was a bit too much for me to sift through, but i've listened to the ones you've singled out for me and some from the list and they're all a bit too much...uh, electro i guess. i'm looking for less of a straight up electronica feel and more for a nice melding of dance/rock/punk ie css, lcd soundsystem, klaxons etc

out of the 100 albums on that list, which are most guitar-based?

i guess it's not on the list, but maybe you'll enjoy
White Rose Movement's debut album Kick

Try These New Puritans, they're like Klaxons on glue instead of proper drugs!
Theoretical Girl might work as well (check "I Am Theoretical Girl"), or The Vichy Government. It's not all dancable but then what is ... a band that I bet will be The New CSS before the entire world's even caught up with the old CSS is Bonde do Role (technically Bonde do Rolê, but the former is where the track previews are), they play daft'n'dirty electrofunkpunk stuff.

Heylo, I just rediscovered Beaucoup Fish by Underworld. Especially Shudder/King of Snake really rocks. I was wondering whether anybody knows any good artists/songs/compilations that kind of compare elements from (two of) these songs:
    Underworld - Shudder/King Of Snake
    Boymerang - Soul Beat Runna
    Lamb - Gorecki

    Cheers!

Well, I was going to add a recommendation of The Faint, but it seems you are quite the fan! I can suggest the Liars' first album, Adult., maybe Miss Kittin and Chicks On Speed.

Hi! I would like to find some obscure indefinable rare electronic music. I'm tired of traditional stuff I'd like to hear something new or special...

I see Astral Projection in your list, so you may like the stuff from the Twisted Records label. Shpongle, Younger Brother and Ott are certainly indefinable and special.

Or you could go with Eletronico: Electronic bubblegum lounge from Japan. (Amazon & co seem to call it Electronico, but they can't spell, as the CD cover undeniable omits the c)

These are somewhat hard to classify..

    Beaumont Hannant Scupltured (1994)

Laurent Garnier - Unreasonable Behaviour (2000)

    Ada - Blondie (2004)

So much so, I ain't gonna describe 'em!

    Try:

Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, Sqaurepusher, Venetian Snares, Autechre and their similar artists...

Like Minimal Techno? ---> You'll love High on Electronic Music
Have diverse and non-mainstream taste in music? ---> See if you qualify for The 1 Percenters group....
