    Kylie Minogue - Enjoy Yourself

    When Did I Get It?
    About 1990.

    Format?
    Cassette.

    Do I Still Rate It?
Well... it has sentimental value to me.

  • Album?
    Garbage - Garbage (1995)

    When Did I Get It?
1999-2000? I don't think it was 2001 already since that was the year beautifulgarbage came out and I knew them already when that happened. I didn't think I'd ever want to remember the date of purchase, since it was my first CD (and first anything, I come from a no-music household) I was completely unaware of a CD's (or record's) immeasurably superior value compared to just any item you buy.

    Format?
    CD.

    Do I Still Rate It?
Not as much as I used to. I still enjoy Garbage, but they've become a bit of an unsatisfying middle thing between Curve and the Cardigans, although the latter side is nowhere near as graspable on the debut as on the following albums. Much later I acquired the album by Angelfish, Shirley Manson's old band, but untypically enough the oldest isn't my favourite in this case - I think "Garbage" is the best, least up-and-down, most fully realised (and perhaps even too professional) record to feature Shirley Manson (although none of Garbage's albums strikes me as offensively bad, just a little high gloss lah-de-dah).

  • Album?
The Knack - Get the Knack (1979)

    When Did I Get It?
In 1979 after seeing My Sharona on Countdown (Australia’s Top of the Pops).

    Format?
    Cassette.

    Do I Still Rate It?
The rest of the album came nowhere near the level of the hit but had some ok songs. I don’t have it in my collection in any format so I guess not.

  • Album?
The Sesame Street Book and Record (1970)

    When Did I Get It?
In 1971, age 4, as a present from my father. He had gone to a meeting in NYC, and brought me back this LP and a Sesame Street street sign that hung on my bedroom wall for many years. I still have both.

    Format?
Vinyl, with a full color book of pictures and lyrics, and a poster of Big Bird.

    Do I Still Rate It?
Those songs that Joe Raposo did for the show were brilliant. I can still sing most of them from memory today. Rubber ducky, you're the one....

    First album I purchased myself?
Billy Joel - The Stranger (1977) on vinyl when I was in the 7th grade, around 1980 or so.

"Just like I knew what I was doing" -- Foe
  • Album?
Debbie Gibson - Out of the Blue (1987)

    When Did I Get It?
Either 87 or 88. I can't recall if I received it as a gift for my 9th birthday or 10th.

    Format?
Vinyl. It was given to me along with my first record player. CDs still weren't the dominant format yet. Ah, memories....

    Do I Still Rate It?
I can't say I really like the music anymore, but I still contend that Debbie Gibson was probably the best of the late 80s teen pop artists, if only because she wrote most of her own songs and had the sort of youthful freshness you just can't manufacture.

  • Album?
Will Smith - Big Willie Style (1997)

    When Did I Get It?
For Christmas that year I believe.

    Format?
    CD.

    Do I Still Rate It?
At the time it was an unwanted present but I love it thanks to the sentimental value and the catchiness of it all.

King Of The Wild Frontier by Adam & The Ants when it came out on vinyl.

    Def Leppard - Hysteria (1987)

    When Did I Get It?
    On release, 1987.

    Format?
Cassette, for use with the walkman.

    Do I Still Rate It?
Yep, it's the high watermark of 80's metal. The fact that the drummer's missing an arm is neither here nor there.

    Eraserheads - Cutterpillow (1995)

    When did I get it?
1995, I enjoyed the previous album so much (my cousin lent it to me) that when my mom and I were walking at the mall and we saw the poster outside a record shop, I just had to pester her to get it for me. I was nine.

    Format
    Cassette.

    Do I Still Rate It?
Yeah, I will always remember it as one of the best albums that had ever graced my ears. I'm sure most Filipinos would agree.

    When did I get it?
Not sure either. I do remember that I saw it in a supermarket when I was shopping with my parents and they bought it for me.

    Format
    Vinyl.

    Do I Still Rate It?
3.5/5 (though I haven't listened to it for quite some time)

    Album?
Don't know the title, but it was some budget Johnny Cash compilation. I seem to recall it being on Camden, RCA's budget label, but that doesn't make sense since Cash was signed to Columbia at the time.

    When did I get it?
    Late 1970/early 1971, I think.

    Format
Vinyl. All they had back then, really.

    Do I Still Rate It?
I still think Johnny Cash is one of the all-time greats, and any record that has "I Still Miss Someone" on it is pretty damn good no matter what.

Scooter - No Time to Chill (1998)

    When did I get it?
At the end of June 1999. I could convince my mother because I had good results at school.

    Format
CD, which meant I couldn't play it in my own room, I had no my stereo only had casette decks. I also had a walkman, but for some reason it wouldn't play cd's. As a matter of fact, the cd wouldn't even fit. Ah well, my mother sure did regret it afterwards.

    Do I still rate it?
A quick look on my charts will prove that I'm still quite an avid Scooter listener. I'm not like: "Scooter is the greatest band ever, believe or fear my wrath", as technically, they aren't 'good'. I do however enjoy them and this album rates among their better stuff.

  • i cant think. i remember my mum not realizing i stood firmly in the blur side of the playground, and i recieved a copy of Morning Glory for christmas [which thankfully got nicked] [funnily enough, that put me off oasis till last week, when i played definitely maybe, and was more than impressed].
i think my mum had a tape copy of parklife - im sure just to rub it in - but i managed to loose taht, and have since bought the cd.
i had a louise [sp?] [of eternal fame] cd, but mostly for the inlay..
ill need to have a look, im sure i never through out, or gave away, a cd, no matter how much i hated it, or scratched it was.
there is a sesame street/big bird tape kicking about somewhere, if we count gifts, i suppose that was mine, and prob predates most stuff.
space man by babalon zoo was my first purchace, before i even had a player, around November.
and i was kinda into happy hardcore, that was my first love, haha. i had a few mix tapes i got from the baras market. and a cd called technoheadz i got cause it had 'i want to be a hippy' on it.

anyway, i cant remember the last cd i bought, so ive done well to remember that lot. all pretty pathetic.

  • lol.
also, the first album i MADE!
one side was bohemian rhapsody over and over, and the other was 'dont stop, wiggle wiggle' by the outhere brothers.
mostly-metal's DJ Kicks, vol 1, of many!

I am still pretty young (14 to be 15 in november), and only began buying my own CDs at age 13, before that I just listened to whatever my parents would play.

    Album
Green Day - Bullet In A Bible (2005)

    When did I get it?
On it's release date, it was a few days before my b-day, and I had recently gotten into GD and wanted to buy my own music.

    Format
    CD + DVD

    Do I still rate it?
No, I kind of grew out of pop punk quickly.

1994, about 2 months after it was released.

    Format

    Do I still rate it?
I still have it. I don't think I've listened to it in a few years though. It has a lot of sentimental value.

    Rating
I like it very much, but Maiden doesnt have a really weak album, imo.

The first album I bought with my own money & my own fully informed choice was:

    When Did I Get It?
Heh. A couple of years after I bought it. Oh, you did mean when did I buy it. 1967, a year after it came out. I was 14 & I bought it April then went out & bought Absolutely Free. Couldn't understand what all the Sgt. Peppers fuss was about. Still can't.

    Format
    Vinyl, duh.

    Do I still rate it?
    Oh yeah. Great album.

I don't remember very well the first I owned but perhaps a Peter Hammill & Graham Smith live in 1979 recorded from the sound of a small TV. Yes that wasn't an official release but once recorded that was an album on K7. :-) In fact it seems that a cd bootleg has been done of this live but I don't have it (nor the tape copy I did).

    When did i get it?
During 1979 but I wasn't a new young boy discovering Music by his own, I already had some knowledge of extended listening of Rock music from friends or family.

    Format
Tape copy (but legal in my country, at least it is now)

    Do I still rate it?
I don't have this tape anymore since a very long time, but I'm sure I'll still rate it quite high now.
