    Celtic Frost, very much!

Anthrax, Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth the “big four” should be everyone’s starting point here each band are classic in their own right, though Megadeth are by far my personal favourite.

Nevermore – not 100% thrash but especially on the more recent albums they are quite a thrashy, band. Jeff Loomis’ guitar playing, and Warrel Dane’s vocals are the highlights here, fantastic live.. And they have a lot of time for they’re fans.

Kreator heavy, heavy German thrash.. go on give it a listen, great stuff.

Sepultura probably my all time favourite band, Beneath the Remain, Arise and Chaos Ad is what you need to be listening to imo here.

The Haunted, Arch Enemy, and Hatesphere are signature bands in the modern Swedish (melodic) thrash sound.

Lamb of God, post-thrash metalcore... Not my cuppa tea, but lot’s of people enjoy this very much.

Machine Head, the last album and the first two is what we are talking about here, groove thrash at its best... almost!

The previous almost is because of Pantera classic band, Vulgar Display is one of the albums that really got me into Metal.. And The Great Southern Trendkills saved my life/got me through high school.

Chimaira thrashy metalcore... check out the last two albums imo they just seem to be getting better.

Shadows Fall before Mastodon these were hailed as the saviours of Metal (now it’s Gojira – [aside] strange three saviours since the turn of the millennium) the latest album is a bits and pieces album of left overs, covers, and all sorts so I’d give that a miss but The War Within, and The Art of Balance are modern thrash/metalcore master piece imo.

I was choking on a cornflake.
You said have some toast instead.
  • has anyone heard the hellhammer demos?

ive only got the Satanic Rites demo and i bloody love it. ive also got the Apocalyptic Raids 1990 A.D EP. sometimes i think these are better than anythin they made as Celtic Frost; mainly when im listenin to Hellhammer, when im listenin to morbid tales, that is the best.

i suppose basically im tring to get someone to give me them.

  • Thrash section seems a little quiet. :(

Anthrax - Persistence of Time (1990)

One of my favourite Anthrax albums. If anyone was looking to get into Anthrax this would be the album I'd recommend. Killer riffs, addictive chorus' and memorable lyrics combine to form some intense songs. For me, this is what thrash is all about and I recommended it to all metalheads and newbies of the metal genre alike.

I agree with mat35, very good recommendations, pretty much all of which i listen to. :)

I reckon every thrash fan should check out some of these lesser known bands...

    Nuclear Assualt
    Sabbat
    Razor
    Sodom
    Destruction
    Death

Well, were i come from there are lots of kids running around wearing metallica t shirts claiming that they are really into thrash metal, and they dont have a clue really tbh so yes in that respect they are lesser known... want some more lesser known bands?

    Protector
    Sabbat
    Razor
    Coroner
    Artillery

Tell that to some kids and they'll be like..."what?"

Well technically death are death metal, but ive always referred to them as thrash as IMO they lack the extremities as compared to other such Brutal acts.

Oh, and i checked your charts, you've never even listened to Sodom or Destruction...

    and good day...

I haven't listened to them because I'm not into thrash (BTW, not having something on charts doesn't mean one doesn't listen to it, there are cassettes, vinyls and similar things.... and I haven't always been on Last.fm). But I know them and I know they are considered classic of the genre.

  • kids are [in] trouble.
u ever listen to hellhammer killswitch555? they are one of the few thrash bands who dont suck. and to be honest, haha, metallica are prob one of them too.
i agree that death are pretty thrashy. [if u care]

    My thrash metal pick

Thrash metal in your ass. 26 minutes of thrash metal with some hardcore influences. Very fast songs with that in-your-face-style that you can recognize.

Download: "Unleash the Bastards", "Deathripper", "Accelerated Vision".

    My thrash metal pick...

Morbid Saint - Spectrum of Death (1988)

It's beyond me how could they just disappear after releasing this album. Morbid Saint played extremely fast thrash metal with excellent drumming. Production is rather shitty, but who cares about production?

  • Thrash Metal Pick of The Week:

    Slayer - Divine Intervention (1994)

The forgoten Slayer album they say - it was the first i owned - got it for a few pounds - though, you'd imagine the last two will fade further into obscurity over the years.
If u haven't already check this 'gem' out. every time i play it im sure its their best.

    9/10.
