  • Artists from other genres heavily influenced by industrial/noise...

More and more in recent years, we're beginning to see artists emerge from other genres who were directly or indirectly influenced by the likes of Godflesh, Swans, etc. Many artists specifically within the hip-hop genre seem to emerge with production in the vein of Godflesh, or even sampled artists like them in their music. Post an artist you think would interest the monolith heads in this group who have a distinct influence of industrial/noise in their music.

    My contributions for now:

About two years ago I discovered a wonderful group named Dälek from New Jersey, USA who are arguably one of the most unique hip-hop groups out today. Aside from industrial, I love hip-hop, so this group blending real hip-hop with real noise/industrial is nice ear candy for me. They're one of my most played artists in recent times.

I suggest you all check them out for their monolithic and sombre music... it's real atmospheric. If you can, definitely buy "Gutter Tactics", their latest and best album. Here's a footage of one of my personal favorite songs where they incorporate a My Bloody Valentine-esque beat (probably sampled from them too.)

And FYI: they toured with many related bands in this group like Godflesh, Isis, Jesu, Melvins... real diverse group.

Another artist who is also from the same area & crew as Dälek is Oddateee whose sound is very dense, sombre, and definitely has a influence from the noise genre. Check out one of his songs below... it's from his second album "Halfway Homeless":

Oh man, thanks a bunch! I've been looking for "noisy" hip hop recommendations for some time now! Keep 'em coming!

  • No problem N204! It's kind of hard finding noisy hip hop artists because when I do, I end up finding artists who are more electronic-based groups than actual "noise" groups ya know?

If you're not familar yet, you should check out Ice, a side project from members of Techno Animal (which features Justin Broadrick from Godflesh). Techno Animal is another great noisy hip hop group... at least their later stuff shows crossovers of Justin's Godflesh stuff. Also, a collaboration between Alec Empire & Techno Animal is some great and rather relaxing noise-hop music (all instrumental too except one track which has raps.)

And maybe not necessarily "noise" in the monolith sense, but Food For Animals is pretty dope... super glitchy sounding music. Their first album "Scavengers" is their best stuff. Sounds like a mix of gabber & computer glitches.

I still think Dalek epitomizes "noise-hop" and wish I can find more music similar to them... here's more videos with the groups mentioned above stuff:

Food For Animals - Cut and Paste

    Ice - Juggarnaut Kiss

Alec Empire & Techno Animal - Caucasian Deathmask

Dalek - Gutter Tactics (side note: I love the downtuned guitar in the background.)

    Oddateee - My EX

Anyone... please post more related artists. Doesn't have to be hip-hop... I'm looking for more noise-influenced stuff as well from any genre.

Good recommendations there, Food For Animals was a nice discovery! I'm pretty aware of the Justin Broadrick/Kevin Martin-axis, I'm what you could call "gay for Broadrick" and his projects. Indeed I am looking for more stuff in the vein of Dälek, it seems I'm not alone on my quest for noisy beats!

  • Oh I forgot to mention to ya... somewhat similar to Dalek I suppose but not nearly noisy, but as abstract as them are Cannibal Ox. Their only full length album "Cold Vein" has it's noisy minimal moments... but it's no Dalek. But I thought it was worth mentioning in this thread...

I remember hearing about Cannibal Ox here and there, didn't pay too much attention to them though. Now I've seen the falseness of my ways, and I've listened to "The cold vein" while commuting, it's a surprisingly solid piece! Recommended!
