He was pretty much on the spot with Wolfmother. But I think the point he was trying to make is that bands nowadays(mostly radio garbage)don't really strive for anything more than mediocre.

    I agree with that.

You're invited to a party but you're not invited.

I've seen that footage before but it's still funny. He's not wrong, although I actually did liked their album when it came out. Too bad they suck live.
It always gets me, how bands like that get so much exposure. Meanwhile the true talent of Mike Patton has never been recognized in the mainstream. On the other hand, I wonder if I would still feel the same way about Patton if he was.
True genius is usually laughed off, condemned and overlooked until years later when seen in hindsight. I'll bet he'll get great credit years from now.

  • i thought that was a funny video, and there are a few different users who have posted the same vid, so it's not gone from youtube, maybe just from that user.

it's funny cos later on i found another video clip of him hosting some rock videos for mtv2 or something. idk if it was a headbanger's ball thing or something similar to that stuff, but he introduced a video from wolfmother and was just like kind of hesitant, but not obviously showing dislike for them like, "and here's a video from ah... wolfmother. ...great band, good stuff. here ya go." it was actually hard to tell if he had started to like them, but i think he was just doing what he had to do for the show. either way it was funny seeing that clip right after the clip of him expressing his hatred for them.

I don't think he hates them. I think he just hates the music industry for giving them so much money and backing for doing absolutely nothing original.

Basically he hates them because there are tones of bands that have already done what they do, hundred times better. It was a funny video and I saw it on Youtube two days ago, must have got uploaded again.

The way I see it, people will make the type of music they want to make. There's so many different kinds of musicians out there, but because of the record industry (companies, labels, executives, radio stations, MTV, etc.) and their piss poor view on what should get exposure and what they don't see as "marketable", bands like that get recognized, and we get all the crap floating in the mainstream.
That's why I don't just get mad at the band or singer I hate, I really curse the industries for allowing it on air and making the suggestible masses think it's because they're talented. Shit, look at the pop success of people like Green Day, Avril Lavigne or the Jonas Brothers and tell me it's not the case.
I read this line somewhere: Music died when it became an industry.

  • exactly. that was the point i was just going to make right before i saw you mention it. The Green Day thing... jeez. like they were awesome, and they obviously have good taste and influences, but they have adapted to the times and what sells. so they're all political and ecofriendly and shit. which even if they really are, great, but they definitely changed their music style to fit into what sells; especially amongst like the younger kids now. i'm only 22, but i have a taste in like stuff from the 90s and earlier (aside from rap and pop i like from now).

Yeah I haven't liked that band in about 15 years, but I know what you mean.

Somewhere on youtube you can watch the song perfomed by Patton with ex-Wolfmother members and hip-hop DJs(producers?). It seems they're all ok with it.
